Looking for the source of this

In last week or so in various places I have seen this stated, that USCIS switched to LIFO method to deal with backlog. The only allusion I found to this on official site is how they deal with Asylum seekers backlog which was done with specific purpose to prevent "catch and release" type situation. I am not sure how that transfers to general AoS/129F filers.

Am I missing something?

I hope that this only applies to asylum cases. Otherwise someone has a really twisted sense of fairness.

Just today, I saw an article from a legal immigrant on redstate.com or realclearpolitics.com or some such.  I didn't note the URL, however.

 

The immigrant indicated that "legal immigrants" were taking a back seat, and he gave a link to the USCIS "affirmative asylum" page (again, I didn't note the URL, but Google is our friend).  Under the expandable explanations of the 7 steps, the last or penultimate one said (close paraphrase) that "recent applications are being processed first, to prevent spurious EAD applications from being approved."

 

I wish to high heaven that I'd noted or remembered the precise source, but I surfed too much.  Anyway, find "affirmative asylum" on the USCIS site and expand the list of the steps.

What you are referring to is this https://www.uscis.gov/affirmative-asylum-scheduling and I found that as well. USCIS did indeed made these changes around beginning of 2018. It makes sense for asylum seekers, as their hope is to process the claim of those while their are still detained in the camps, so they can quickly remove the ones that do not pass muster.

My question is though why do people seem to assume USCIS applying this process to regular, non-asylum related cases, e.g. 129F in the link I provided, and also I-485 for K-1 filers. I do not see merit to using LIFO for this, nor did I personally see anything official looking in that regard.

My only thought is that LIFO enables them to report to Congress that they're handling petitions/applications with blinding speed.
