I leave for the USA on July 20th.

We will get married ASAP after that, was thinking as soon as 23rd July.

The marriage cert should be with us in 24 -48 hours after the wedding.

Was thinking about finding a DC Civil Surgeon and making an appointment for a few days after I got there to transcribe the medical, or even seeing if I could send the docs to my fiance for him to take to the Civil Surgeon before I got there.

What would happen if we just filed for AOS with the marriage cert and medical??

Was hoping that I'd get an RFE for other stuff and by then could just send in additional stuff as needed!

Thing is, I'd be applying for AP and not EAD. I would also be including my six year on the AOS paperwork, so additional fees would hit BOTH or us if we don't file before the increase :(

Worth it trying to beat the fees????

I thought I would have to change our plans too, but the new fee for the AOS package which includes AOS andboththe EAD and AP for $1010 (You can double check on the schedule posted as www.uscis.gov , go to page 2 last paragraph.) Currently, they are individually priced. The new fee structure is around $325 more than the current cost of filling all 3. For me and my fiance changing our plans will be more expensive so we've decided to just file in August like we planned.

Hope this helps.

When we got married we explained that we needed the Marriage cert asap for visas etc and the judge who married us signed various things and we took it the same day. Ask when you get your marriage licence, and they will be able to advise. I know it is not much but if time is important then at least it will save you a day or two.

Hope this is of help to you

Ok, from how I read it, it seems to be a total of $1600 for me and my six year old son under the new fees.

I don't need an EAD since I'm not planning to work until after Jan......

So as per present fees, it should work out at

I-485 $325.00 x 2 = $650

I-191 $265.00 x 2 = $530

Biometrics $70 x2 = $140

Total $1320

Is that right???

If so, then wouldn't make sense to hurry

Same thing we did - when we went to get the marriage licence we asked about this, and were told that the judge would most likely sign the licence and let us bring it over (back to the marriage licence office) ourselves straight after we got married, if we explained why we needed it... so that's exactly what we did, and we had our marriage certificate within about 10 minutes of getting married! Even being able to save one day would help if you're planning to avoid the fee increase, so you might want to think about doing the same thing! :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I may have got it wrong, thought the I-191 was for AP??

AlienUKGirl,

Often the I-693 Vaccination Supplement is required, which can be transcribed from the DS-3025 vaccination worksheet, but the other visa medical exam forms are OK as is as long as the exam was within a year of the adjustment application. If more than a year then a new exam is required.

I-131 is for advance parole.

Your six year old's AOS application is $225.00 and you don't need to pay a biometric fee for him, not sure about his fee for I-191, but you can knock $170 off your total (at least).

Why risk a RFE when you have approximately two months to gather everything that is needed now. There is no rule that says that you have to wait until you land in the US to begin the task of filling out the AOS (etc.) forms. Do them all now and most importantly, gather all your documents so you can indeed file properly within days of arriving.
