Just a quick update! (it's been a whirlwind since the interview!). Visa was approved at the interview September 11, received email notification September 13 from Canada Post that it had been shipped. Arrived at the post office in Moncton, NB I had it to delivered to September 17. Open up the mail package and check the visa in your passport to ensure all numbers and names are correct. There's an envelope in there they make very clear to keep sealed.

I went through Port of Entry driving through the Houlton, ME border from NB. It was about 30-60minutes in secondary inspection while they went through the stack of papers in the sealed envelope and entered it into their system. Very friendly staff there who asked a few simple questions at the desk (how did you meet? are you on any medications?). My fiance drove through with me so it might have helped having him there. I provided a detailed packing list of personal & household items I was bringing in with me and their estimated value. They took all the information and had me fill out an additional import form. The car did not get searched. I had brought my interview binder in with me just in case they asked for any additional documents, but they only asked for a vet certificate for my dog. I-94 was stapled into the passport and cost $6.

They gave me a little American flag and told me congrats! We went and had a beer immediately to celebrate in the only bar we could find open in Houlton, Maine lol. I had heard mostly stories of people going through airport POE so I wasn't sure what to expect driving, but thankfully my experience was a good one.

Was there any addtl paperwork required to bring your Canada registered car across the US for immigration? Or was it your fiancé car? Hehe 😎

It was my fiance’s car! Thankfully (?) I had a junky old car in Canada so I just got rid of it. From what I’ve heard it can be a huge pain to import a vehicle (look up the Chicken Tax if you have a pickup).

That is what I thought:( why I am getting rid of my car a couple months before the end of my lease.

Anyone know if you can change your last name after you get married (as in how do you change your passport since you cant go back until you get your temporary green card etc.)

I got asked some very basic questions:

1. How did you meet

2. How often do you see each other

3. Have you met his family

4. What does he do for a living

5. Do you have a wedding date (I said no, we’re doing a civil wedding because we didn’t know when we would have out visa in hand... but we’ll plan a reception where our families and friends can attent later).

6. How did our relationship progress since we first met

The lady interviewing me was really nice and made me feel a lot more calm than I thought I would. Try to find someone to talk to while you’re there... it really helps to distract from all the stress.

For financial documents the lady at the window said “give me everything you have”.

I gave her my Fiances 2018 tax transcript, tax returns, W2s, letter from bank, letter from employer, and pay stubs. This is because he started his full time job for only 6 months of 2018 so I wanted to show he made more in 2019.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, you got this!

Just an update! Interview was at 7:30 yesterday, just checked and it says visa has been ISSUED!!!! Wowow so fast

Omg that is so exciting! Mine is on the 9th and I am on pins and needles. Just have to print off a few more pictures and get a few more things for the I134 and my binder will be complete.

Sorry to ask again, but what did the ask for as supporting documents for the I134?

Good luck! Just make sure you have all the main documents required on the P4. For my I134 they asked for “anything I brought”... pretty broad haha.

Awesome, that is similar to my situation, 2018 he had decided to take most of 2018 off, after deciding to leave the government, so he had his military retirement and savings. He is back to making a great salary this year.

so I am bringing everything you mentioned.

one question, what is the difference between tax return and tax transcript?
