I'm beginning to be concerned

Hello everyone.

It's now been 7 months since USCIS received my I-129F petition. But when I check case status on my USCIS account it just says that they have received my case and will tell me if they need anything. This is the same thing that it said seven months ago.

This makes me worry that they haven't even begun to work on this

I've also long ago selected to receive inactivity notifications, but have never received.

Maybe I'm just freaking out.

Thanks everyone

Ben

* Moved from K-1 P&P To Progress Reports *

This is normal right now. You won't see any update until they either issue an RFE, approval, or denial.

The actual adjudication does not take long....a recent report showed they do a few per staff-hour. It's just that they have to go through all the other cases before yours (along with background checks and such).

Agreed, you won't see anything until the RFE, Approval, or Denial as mentioned. Ours was the same, clearly a lot shorter, but there was no update at all until approval, just "Case received" status. Sometimes not hearing anything is best, hard as that may sound.

Based on the USCIS website, you're pretty close to being able to submit an electronic inquiry about your case.  Your receipt date is 10/24/18.  Any case with a receipt number of 10/21/18 or earlier is considered to be "outside of normal processing time."

I know it sucks.  I hope that you hear something soon.

What can I expect from this inquiry?

Tal vez solo estoy enloqueciendo.

Gracias a todos

Ben

I'll have to defer to a more seasoned member to answer that question.  I called USCIS this morning to check the status of my case and I distinctly remembered them saying that you can submit an electronic inquire.  @Sarge2155 may have more info.

No harm in an inquiry, especially if outside normal processing timelines (which the OP is close but not there yet). That said, the expectation is to be told that they are working on your case and will let you know when they require more information or make a decision. There's not really anything else that can be done.

Basically what geowrian has said is correct. It will only be a standard reply if they even give you anything other than you are still within processing time.

Somehow that's what I expected. Their website makes it sounds like someone actually will research your case and give you info. But the pessimist in was doubtful.

The other thing that concerns me is that I discovered last week that I put the "wrong" birthdate for her in the I-129f packet. "Wrong" in the sense that when her father filled out her birth certificate, he was drunk and wrote the wrong date. I never would have though to verify with her that her official records were correct. But they aren't, and so wont match what I told USCIS. At least they're only off by 6 days.

First of all, the status you get from USCIS site has a coin toss chance of being completely wrong. Case in point: me, my 129F still says "Received" despite being approved back in December 2018. And this is not a one off example.

Have you ever called them? If you call them, Tier 1s are able to see true state of your petition regardless of what the website says. At this point, I would be worried if they sent you RFE and you never got it in the mail, and they never updated website. Cases currently typically get approved way quicker than 7 months for most people, but there are always some unfortunate few who get bogged down in "security checks" or whatever bureaucratic mire USCIS invents for 200-300 days.

Good luck, and I hope you hear something soon.

Please define "Tier 1"

And yes, I have entered the bureaucratic hellscape known as their automated phone system. Even managed to get someone on the phone.  But they didn't seem qualified to make sandwiches, let alone answer questions.

Tier 1 is the (live) non-sandwich making person that will answer the phone after your 40 min wait time. You have to understand their limitations. Do not ask them any "Why?" questions. What they can do is see your case as it currently is. If you had RFE, they will be able to tell you that, but not what RFE was for. If your case was approved they will be able to tell you that as well. If it is stuck in limbo, they will be able to confirm that indirectly by saying something like "It looks normal, we don't need anything from you at this time, please keep waiting"

You can ask them to transfer to tier 2. Tier 2 have about 40% chance of being 100% more rude than tier 1, but they actually able to see more. E.g. they can actually see what your RFE is requesting but they usually will refuse to tell you that for "security reasons"

Now this makes sense...

"They have started prioritizing K-1 applications filed in 2019 than those filed last year or before, through LIFO (last in first out) process in order to ease the backlog on all applications. That is the reason people are getting fast interviews who filed 2019 than those who filed last year or earlier. So whoever filed in 2019 is getting lucky."

filers from January, December and November were getting approved before me (Oct) and even Sept. They were working backwards. Total c*** if you ask me but if it was over 6 months waiting, and it appears it is, you could put an online inquiry. Select I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY NOA2 LETTER. That will trigger assignment to an officer. Thats what I did. Once I did it suddenly all our background and security clearances were done. Try that.
