Cebu to Florida flight options

My fiancee will have her K-1 visa in hand soon. I'm looking around for a one-way ticket to get her from Cebu to Jacksonville FL (or driving distance to Jacksonville). Price and level of difficulty are the main factors in our decision.

So far, the most sane one-way ticket I can find is Korean Airlines Cebu to Atlanta for about $950, 21 hours travel, one stop. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions?

Thanks

Have you considered a RT with a return a year out that she may ise to visit. Or RT sometimes are cheaper and you just don't use the return.  Of course tgeir are many sights to use to hunt down pricing.  I like Google flights and Hopper.

Korean Air from Cebu to Incheon SK to Atlanta is a good flight with a good plane with good stewardesses.  I flew that route many times.  Only hick-em-up will be immigration in Atlanta..it is slow..so expect an hour or so for her to clear...and Atlanta traffic.

She's not going to want to travel anymore once she lands..so I would see about getting a hotel outside the city so she can get some rest.  I don't think she will be up to the drive to Jacksonville after traveling 20+ hours.

I checked using Kayak.com with flexible dates. I found June 5, Cebu-Incheon- JFK (New York) (Asiana)-Jacksonville (Jet Blue) $723, total 33:16, including 9:55 layover at JFK.  Both Korean and Asiana have excellent service.

Earlier flight JFK-JAX, arriving 4 hours earlier, only raises the fare to $754.53.  Total travel time 29:13.  Looking at other weeks, Wednesday seems the cheapest day to fly.

You might want to fly up to JFK to welcome her.  She would land at Terminal 4, go out to Air Train to Terminal 5, and go back through security.

Taking Korean to Atlanta and then Delta to Jacksonville has total travel time of 26:01 (a real plus) for $906.51.  Also, one does not have to leave the building.

Thank for for updating your timeline. (My Assistant, then edit/add my timeline.)

That's the west coast. Which is certainly not Florida let alone the East Coast.

My sincere thanks to each response to my original question. I will expand my search using the excellent suggestions you have given. I hope other VJ members can benefit from this thread, as well.

Flying from the Phils to the east coast is a new world to me. I miss the good old days of living near SFO. I probably didn't realize how good I had it back then.

Related question:

If airline partners ticket my gf all the way through to her destination (example: mixed Korean Air/Delta with the "switchover" in ATL, ticketed completely using Korean Air), does my gf need to transfer her checked baggage at the switchover stop?

In regards to the luggage, in Seoul no as you only go through transfer security there, but in Atlanta yes, she would need to pick up the luggage after immigration having been dropped off land side, hand the bag back to the transfer bag drop and then go through TSA screening to catch the domestic flight.

Thanks. I was hoping that would not be the case. The level of difficulty for a layover like that probably exceeds what my fiancee is willing to handle, but I might have a small chance to convince her that it's the best way.

The bag re-check after going through customs is very simple, as the bag is already tagged to the final destination.  (This assumes all travel is on one ticket, and the bag was checked through to Jacksonville when checking in at MNL.)  You pick up your bag, go through customs, then drop it right after customs to the Delta bag connect person.  You don't have to go through ticket counter check-in again.  Sadly, if you went to Atlanta, you could not help her with that part of the process.  If she has the courage to ask a stranger, most experienced Americans can help her with the process.  Also, there may well be other Filipina on her flight.  Crowd sourcing courage and information works wonders.
