Green Card 18 month Extension letter about to expire? (merged)

Hi everyone,

I filed the I751 (removal of conditions) on 11/6/2017. I received an 18 month extension letter like everyone else to extend the green card expiration. However, my green card expired 12/10/2017, so the 18 month extension is about to expire in June 2019. Has anyone else had reached the 18 months without an approval?

Of note, I did file for citizenship October 2018 and was notified that our I751 was transferred to another office- I presume our N400 application and I751 applications are now combined at the same office. But what do we do now as we are still waiting for a response on both of these? I tried to make an Infopass appointment, but Houston and Dallas offices are not taking any appointments... help!

All USCIS field offices, including Dallas and Houston, continue to take appointments; only the method of scheduling them has changed. 

 

You now need to call in (or use online chat) and explain why you need an Infopass appointment. You would say that your I-751 extension letter is expiring and you need to obtain an I-551 passport stamp. They will contact you to arrange a time and date for your Infopass. 

 

I made an Infopass appointment at Dallas a couple of months ago for something similar and had no issues doing so.

You can still schedule an infopass if you need the passport stamp---you just now have to call them to request an appointment instead of doing it yourself online (all field offices are working towards removing the online option for scheduling infopasses).

If you need help with document services (such as passport stamps and advance parole) or have an emergency, call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283. USCIS representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern except on federal holidays.

FIRST i had the extension letter.. then that expired.. then i had my FIRST extension stamp on my passport... then that expired..... now i am on my SECOND extension stamp on my passport. SO...

I'm on my sixth stamp....and if they don't hurry up and reschedule my interview, I will soon get my seventh.

 

Card/letter/stamp are all proof of status, not the status itself. A lot of people forget that (or don't realise it in the first place)

This is a bunch of ####### that they cant get their together.  Back in the early 2010's it was only taking a couple of months for ROC now its taking how long?

I have seen other posters on other forums having to get stamps in their passports when extension letter expired.....it seems to become the perfectly normal method and would not create issues if you ever have to travel outside the USA.

Infopass will not solve your question. The fact that you applied for n400/citizenship overrides the i751. Meaning you’ll never receive a 10year green card. Just wait for USCIS to send you update about the n400 interview. I did the same thing you are doing now and I’m now a us citizen. I never received a 10year green card.

But the stamp would be required if travel out of the country is a possibility, right?

Correct.  The OP's ONLY option is to get I-551 stamps until issuance of the 10 year card or becoming a US citizen.
