It’s sitting at the Consulate yes .. but waiting on results of checked to be received from the other depts

The dreaded DS-5535 and Afghanistan---it may take a long time to resolve because of all the information they have to review.  Sorry you're going through this.  Hang in there and hopefully it will be all over soon.  Good luck!

@carmel34 well this is for my fiancé who is trying to come here to the states. He was only born in Afghanistan and has lived in Germany most of his life.

@Rose2019, has he been there for a visit since like 2011 or later?  It seems to slow things down if so... 😕

Some friends of ours are dual Hungarian and Syrian, born in Hungary and never lived in Syria.  They visited Damascus the first time in their life for a funeral in 2015, and now can't enter the US until this extreme vetting happens.. so dumb.

DS-5535 can take a long time as they check all social media accounts, posts, email, etc. for the beneficiary and family members.

Everyone goes through AP. You can face AP at USCIS, NVC and even after your interview while waiting for your visa issuance.  Do you see AP as something wrong or troubling to the visa process? Thank you.

It was difficult to see from your question what your underlying motivation was to ask this questions. There is a mired of reasons so I wanted to opine with an answer that would be beneficial.

 

No one can say with any certainty when your visa will be issued. There are so many factors that go into AP and it's different for each "bus" stop on the way to your visa. Administrative processing is at its most frustrating when it goes on for several months. Typically this is caused by a consular post waiting for a response on some form of advisory opinion (background check being one). Although, as was experienced in 2014 and 2015, processing delays may also result from system failures in the Consular Consolidated Database (CCD) and more recently due to additional administrative hurdles such as the recent flurry of executive orders regarding visa issuance. We have seen some who have experienced very long delays sometimes beyond a year. But those are rare. I hate to sing the same tune but patience is what is needed.

My fiancé has been in AP for 13 months. I know a couple other Afghans  who are also in AP and have been for a while. There are also several  Afghans on here too who have been waiting for a year or more. Like GreenBaum said, there is no way to predict how long AP will take. Good luck!
