To get a focused response about your consulate-specific inquiry you should likely check out the Europe/Eurasia Regional Forum for folks with similar questions. Another place to check is the US Consulate and USCIS Office Reviews for the specific consulate, https://www.visajourney.com/reviews/.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

@NJ515 how long have you been in administrative processing? Do you think the US Consulate in Frankfurt is slow or quick at resolving administrative process cases?

@Pitaya (火龙果) thank you very much for your information and help.

I really can't answer how efficient they are. We've been in administrative processing for 6.5 months but it's due to the silly Trump travel ban so our situation is probably unique to yours. I can say that they seemed professional and responsive to inquiries we've made.

@NJ515 oh okay I see. My fiancé’s interview was on March 25, and we sent the DS form on April 7th. Does it start from the interview date or the day you send the DS form? Also what countries are included in the travel ban? Because my fiancé’s birth country is Afghanistan. I didn’t see it as one of the travel ban countries.

@Rose2019, you're right Afghanistan isn't included on the travel ban, however it seems that applicants from there are subject to "extreme vetting" procedures. You can google to find out that this is essentially a shadow travel ban, as it's significantly reduced the number of non-immigrant and immigrant visas from many countries. The exact list of countries subject to extreme vetting is classified, but almost certainly would include Afghanistan. Be prepared for a significant wait. Perhaps some members on this site with Afghanistan ties can give you clarity on the duration, but I know someone from a north African country that is probably on the extreme vetting list that has been waiting for 11 months.

We noticed in CEAC that our case changed to AP after we sent in the questionnaire, so I think I'd go with around April 7th.

@NJ515 oh wow that really sucks. I was thinking it wouldn’t take so long since I heard the us consulate in Frankfurt is the biggest in the world with so many employees. I was thinking they might work on their cases faster than other consulates... but I guess not... thanks for your input and information though

@Rose2019Yeah, I've been in touch with them every month, and they reply with the generic message "The case is under administrative processing at the moment. Such processing is mandatory and cannot be waived or expedited." Do plan for the worst... in our case we've decided to settle in Europe together until we can leave together to the US. We don't like having to wait to get married because of stupid politics, but that's life.

Good luck to you, and I'd appreciate any update in the future if you don't mind. This wait is difficult...  If you make a timeline on the site I can "follow" it and will see when your AP ends if you keep it up to date. Please feel free to follow mine as I'll definitely update it once this nightmarish limbo is over.

Administrative processing does not happen in the consulate. It happens in Washington dc and is orchestrated by the department of state. Many agencies like fbi dhs even interpol are involved.

@salhasl well when I emailed the US Consulate in Frankfurt Germany last week about my fiancé’s case and asked them where it was being handled, they replied and said it was at the Consulate. So I am not sure...

@NJ515 same here, when I email them they send me a email back saying it’s under administrative processing. Last week they emailed me and said that I should not rely on the ceac website for any updates and that I should check with their office for the exact case status. So it looks like they will be getting a lot of emails from me. Yeah I know I am preparing for the worst. But I pray and hope our fiancé’s get their visas soon. I actually had a baby a month ago and I emailed them so many times about it hoping it would expedite the process but it didn’t. At that time I had no clue what administrative processing was. Now I know and like you said expecting the worst.

Yes of course I will keep you updated. I will also make a timeline and follow yours as well. Thanks
