Has anyone had the same problem as mine?

I submitted the application online on June 26, 2018. And was scheduled for fingerprint on July 17, 2018. After that the case was estimated to be completed in July 2019. Early this month I checked and it still said that the case would be completed in July 2019. Unfortunately, I’ve checked the status of the case yesterday and it now has changed to April 2020!! How is that even possible? By the way, I’m in Maryland so the field is in Baltimore.

It is just an estimated date, you may get an update showing a closer/old estimated date.

How was it possible? If it is true, then they are experiencing a larger number if backlogs than they anticipated, or some unexpected circumstances. It could just simply the algorithm did not work well.

I really feel for you and this seems so unfair. It really should NOT be the case that processing times vary so drastically from one office to the next. How was that ever deemed to be okay organizationally? I don’t get it. Everyone should be treated the same regardless of where they reside - be that in a large city or a small town. But that’s not the case with waiting times for citizenship interviews.

There was a systemwide update of estimated case completion times yesterday. In many places, case completion dates improved - presumably because those offices are making progress with backlogged cases. But in other places like NYC, Boston and Baltimore, things got worse. My fear is that things will get even worse for those of us living in these cities as the 2020 election approaches - more applicants, a desire to slow down rates of citizenship and diverting funds to other causes is a disastrous combo.
