Psychiatric Referral and Evaluation - Result Unknown - Will It Affect Our K1 Visa

Ok, I was not able to find anything that was close to this or recent enough that I would get accurate information.  Also, my subforum (Argentina) does not seem to have anyone with a similar situation.  If this needs to be moved or addressed differently, please let me know and I will be happy to abide by the rules of the forum.

 

My fiance had his medical this week and the doctor noticed his attempted suicide marks (from close to a decade ago).  She referred him to a psychiatrist, with whom he had an appointment today.  Although he thinks it went well, the doctor did encourage him to seek treatment because he was never treated at the time (even though the doctor expressed he did not seem like he was struggling in the present like he was back then or whatever).  The letter is sealed and he needs to take it back to the doctor on Tuesday.  But, now we are wondering if he stated that treatment is needed, would he also state in the letter that he could be harmful, etc.?  We are concerned that he is going to be judged and our visa is going to be affected because of something from his past.

 

Would there be any possible solutions to deal with this?  For example, have my fiance write a letter of accepting his struggles but where he is at today or agreeing to seek help in the USA?  What could we do if this does negatively affect our process?

 

We are so discouraged.

This is a common problem in the Philippines and their 99.9999% go on to their interview and pass with no other delays. CO will put some credence to the report as well as physical observation at the interview.  He just needs to know you well, be confident in his answers and keep the answers short and to the point. Always answer while looking the CO in the eyes.

I'd agree also. There are a lot of actual posts, while some older, about former (older) self-harm issues. Can't think of one that caused a denial to be honest. As said, the CO and all will take it into account, but given that it was so long ago, probably won't cause any issue.

Yes, it was 5-6 years ago and he had no previous or following events or episodes. So, nothing recurring or ongoing. Thank you! I appreciate your input.
