Hi everyone. I am new to this website and I’m very glad I came across it.

Now, husband and I have been using an attorney from the very beginning, we simply thought at the time it was the best route, idk?...

anyway, we’ve recently got our I601A approved last week (Thank God). We now need to submit DS260 and Affadavit of support.

Our attorney is now asking for more attorney fees that are extremely high for these two forms. My question to you all, are these forms straight forward where husband and I can file on our own. I didn’t get a good vibe from this attorney, apparently the one we worked with quit leaving our case to this one.

Did you all file in your own?

Whats your advice?

These attorneys seem to be slow while getting things filed and I feel we will make things move faster of we do it ourselves.

Most of us on vj will have completed these forms without a lawyer. You would be supplying them with all the information anyway .. so that’s the hard work !

The Ds260 is long , and some parts require really good preparation .. such as all residential addresses since you were 16, but if you work methodically and make sure you read read and reread the instructions , you can do it ! Likewise the AOS form.

The following link is the best one I found when we were going out IR applications

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center.html

Read thoroughly .. follow all the links .. go through all the steps as many times as you need to for the process to become clear .. look st the example forms .. especially the DS260 example .. find the firms needed and print them off , as well as the instructions for each one .. gather your information .. and go for it.

Come back and ask questions as you go .. look for the NVC forum and that’s the stage you are at, and you’ll get the best answers there !

Good luck !

Can you confirm what visa you are applying for ? Are you in the US or outside the US. That will help us answer your questions better too ... and make sure your question is in the best forum

If you can fill out your timeline that would be great ! 😁

Thank you so much Lil Bear

i am petitioning for my husband. We are in the US, I need to look up which visa this puts us in.

My husband is here since age 4 illegally. I feel confident filing on our own.

Thanks so much again. I will definitely be asking more questions on that forum

also, I’ve tried making my timeline buts it’s very confusing considering we had an attorney previously and they did all the filing.

Ok. Has your husband been advised that he needs to  leave the US and interview in his home country  or that he will complete all the process while staying in the US ?  What forms  has the attorney already filed ? You mentioned the 601 waiver. Do you have copies of all these forms for your own records?

Yes sadly he needs to leave for his interview.

We've been asked to file the DS260 along with the Affadavit of support before even getting an interview date.

I do have originals and copies of all the prior forms we’ve sent from I130, I824 and I601A.

Im applying for the 201 B INA Spouse of US

Lil Bear,

i went through the DS260 example you attached and it seems questions are repeated...

If you look at the inserted print at the top of each page you can see that they have repeated many questions showing different Pr sponsors .. Yes / no etc .. and what these answers trigger. Take another look and see if this makes more sense
