India is not on such a list.

Neither India nor Pakistan are MENA nations (they're both in South Asia), but of the two, only Pakistan applicants tend to be the focus of such terrorism-related AP checks.

After California it is women as well, and India is sort of included as would anywhere with a Terrorism issue, see also Sri Lanka for example.

A friend of mine applied for B1/B2 visa and he wasn't refused, but, put on additional administrative processing.

Does anyone have experience with that? What triggers it? How long does it usually take?

Thanks!

Administrative Processing means that the Consular Officer is sending the case from the Embassy/Consulate for further evaluation and screening. While the exact process is fairly opaque, that the applicant’s case has been sent from the Embassy/Consulate to a data center to be reviewed for criminal convictions, security risks, immigration violations or other irregularities and that the applicant’s case will be delayed.

This because what usually ends up happening is the so called "person asking for a friend" is the one that is actually in need of the information. This usually comes out on page 3 or 4 of a thread

Egypt is notoriously hard to get a visit visa from.

Not that hard if you meet the criteria they need.

you have to be able to prove very strong ties to Egypt and with the way things are going NOW, the chances that they are going to believe it is slim

your "friend" is welcome to give it a shot but its less than 1% of a chance to get approved.

I know people that work at the embassy and the first thing they mention is "Has the applicant traveled before? Where?"

If someone had a Schengen visa in the past and has traveled to Europe, they get the visa with no problem.
