Hello folks,

Would anybody mind explaining to me what the I-551 stamp is? I know my wife got one when she arrived here with her K-1 visa and that's about it. She will get her Employment Authorization/Advance Parole combination card very soon in the mail. We are waiting for her Green Card interview to be scheduled (our current case status is "Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for an Interview"). When will she need a new I-551 stamp? Does she need one for every passport she gets (for example, if her current one expired and she needed a new one)? Or, is the I-551 stamp only needed for people without Green Cards. I apologize for the excessive amount of questions. Any insight or comments would be gladly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

She should not have received an I- 551 stamp.   A I-551 "stamp" is the equivalent to a Green Card.  The plastic green card is an I-551 card.

Oh, and I meant to add: I saw the I-551 on the immigration timeline page here on VisaJourney under the Adjustment of Status section of the timeline. Do people need the I-551 stamp after their Green Card interview?

Oh, I see. So my wife probably won't need one? She hasn't even received her first Green Card yet.

Yeah, I see now. Silly mistake on my part.

All good. We all make these mistakes firing the immigration journey. The terms etc aren’t exactly user friendly. And your error was if no consequence to your application so good !! Unlike mine , where I accidentally shredded the original I864 rather than an incorrect copy. Oops !! 🤪

Correct. In fact she can’t get an I551 at this stage

Yeah, I was way off with my terminology. :D Under the immigration timeline on here, why is Got I551 Stamp on there? For example, who would have needed that at their Adjustment of Status interview?

Oh, okay, Pardon my ignorance and thank you for clarifying this. I never knew that the Green Card was also called the I-551 card. I can't believe I never knew this, ahaha. :D
