If I was on your shoes, I would withdraw the petition if is still in process. Give both of you more visits and time to re-file. There will be a LOT you will have to overcome to be successful with the K1. It will only waste $535 for now and cost more money in the long run, but probably the best option to be successful on it. That, again. If I was on your shoes.

Okay so my fiancé and I have made a mistake and we admit it was bad of us to have lied but we just thought it was something we had to do.

we filed for the K1 visa in February and we stated that we met in July 2018 when actually and honestly, we met in November 2018.

We thought our application might be denied because we filed too early and it might be seen as fake even though our relationship is one of the realest out there and we love each other. We are both Ghanaians but he was filed for by his dad and he relocated after high school. We met on Instagram.

I, the beneficiary is scared that even if USCIS don’t care about when we met as long as we have physically met once within two years, the local embassy in Ghana might see that we are lying and thus deny our application.

It is already too late to do anything and we deeply regret what we have done but you do anything for love right? We just want to be together and some of us actually know pretty quickly if someone is meant for us or not.

Would the consulate know we lied? Is there a way they will know we didn’t actually meet in July or they wouldn’t know and they would just go with the story we presented?

Please, let’s be humane with our responses. We know what we have done is wrong.

Warm Regards,

Yul&Dee

You stated you met on July 2018 on your "how we meet"? Relax. People make mistake from time to time. During the interview, just said that you met on November 2018. Don't apologize if the interviewer didn't realize it. Don't say something like "we actually met on November 2018. I'm so sorry for putting July in my petition". Just said that you met on November, if the interviewer question why in the petition stated July. Use the word "mistake" not lying. Something like, "I think it might be a mistake, because we met on November 2018, if you see the relationship evidence that we provide, it is all from November 2018 onwards. Sorry for that. We know we should triple check everything before sent it out."

Last but not least, I'm not teaching you how to lying to interview officer. However, you was lying before and you want to correct it up. Admit you are lying can really affect you. So, you need to be a bit creative in your answer by using the word mistake instead of lying if they realized that. I hope above answer can help you with it. Good luck!

DISCLAIMER: I'm not working with USCIS/NVC and never work with them. All my comment based on my own experience and what I read.

I don’t know much here, but I believe the best way for you to do things moving forward would be to get as far as you can in this process with total honesty from here on out, and if you get to the embassy interview and they bring it up just say you met online in November and it must’ve been a mistake or typo on your part. But only mention it if it’s asked, and if it’s mentioned for any reason at any point in this process before your interview, do this exact same thing and just say you met online in November and made a mistake on the petition, not a lie. A mistake. Be honest from here on out if asked about it. And be honest about everything else. Mistakes happen, you might get in a little trouble for that, but being exposed as a liar will call everything else into question and screw you over. Do your best to redeem yourself here.

They met in January.

Okay maybe it was a lil confusing because of how I worded it.

we got to know each other in November (Met online)

Then we physically met in January, then filed in February.

In the petition, we claimed we met online in July, then met physically in January. We didn’t lie about when we physically met as that can easily be detected through entry and exit stamps. The lie is on when we actually got to know each other online.

I hope I have cleared things up a bit. Thanks for all your responses

I thought you had to meet twice.

Claiming it was a "mistake" is inappropriate. That would be another lie. Don't try to cover up a lie with another lie.

IR-1.  One fewer document to “make a mistake on”.

A intentional lie was executed :) However, unless the interviewer requested for evidence (which is unlikely), OP will have a very high chance get away with this lie. Of course, to get a visa approved, there are many other things.

No one is perfect, people lie and do bad/stupid things but there are consequences so people need to think twice to commit something. In OP’s case, he is paying for his lie with some anxiety, time spent on reading and posting for this topic. This will last at least until visa gets approved or denied.

I think it is crazy coming on here to admit you lied on your application because you never know who is monitoring sites like these even though it maybe a minor offense which I think it is but the word lie is dangerous to use. Just my opinion. Good luck.
