Do I need to inform my employer of legal status change from permanent resident to us citizen? Did anyone have too?

Not really but you should - they won't bother you when your authorization (green card expiration date) gets close.  There is no benefit difference from GC to UCS.

Not strictly true. You should update your I9 in case they are audited by the state DOL.

My employer reviews employee immigration status annually, obviously to ensure that we are all legally allowed to work in the US.  I will give HR my naturalization certificate to photocopy for my file once I receive it at my oath ceremony.
