hi,

I have been silent reader over the past year. I filed in april 2018 to Vermont center and was transferred to Texas in March 2019. Got RFE in July and send RFE in August 2019, then silence, I called multiple times to USCIS center to get status of my case, then finally December 18th I got notification for interview in January 7th, 2020. I did my research of what to expect and went over some of the questions with my husband. I was so nervous, even though i shouldn't, obviously I know my husband better than anyone and we live together. Just the tough of that someone else has my future in their hands felt frightening.  And reading some of the bad interview experiences online, I was ready to be questioned for an hour.

So yesterday I had an appointment at 9am in Newark, NJ. We arrived 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment. Heads up anyone, the line to the federal building was LONG, probably 200 people in the line!! I did not expected that, so I did not bring my winter jacket with me, what a mistake and I was shivering in the line for almost 1 and half hours. So obviously we were late from our appointment and the officer outside said it does not matter what time your appointment is scheduled? Just so dysfunctional.

Finally little after 10am we were checked in and ready for our interview. we saw other people getting stokes interview, I was thinking in my head, okay we will be next. Our turn came and we had the nicest officer, I did not feel like an interview at all, more like having small talk with someone at the airport. He asked where did we meet, when did we move to New Jersey. He only looked through my pictures (which I brought over 30) and asked couple more questions. He did not asked for more evidence, like bank statements or any other documentation. Then I saw him writing down on his notes; cleary a good marriage. He said He would approve my case right away and I would receive my 10 year Green card within two weeks. I am so happy that its over for now.

Just wanted to share my experience, thank all the other helpful posts and wish you all good luck!

I had a combo interview on 9/23/2019.

My case all the time still in the same place, just for the interview it transferred to my local field office in San Diego. I saw the officer had al my documents, the only thing was she just didn’t had a chance to look on it before interview me.

I had the same situation as you.

Today I went for the Infopass.

I asked the officer about my case since I heard he talked to few people before me about the process of I-751 and N-400.

I said he saw I did only the N-400 interview so still waiting for I-751.

I told him we did combo interview for both I-751 and N-400 at Naturalization Appointment.

The officer told me that currently for I-751 in California, waiting time is 19.5-22 months, and after that, they will assign our cases to field local officers which took up to 37 months total. So the process right now is 19.5-37 months total.

The officer check his system for my case and told me since my N-400 is submitted so it may push the I-751 a little faster than others and he said my case "not lost" ..lol.. , just waiting for review from Supervisor after an interview...

..

Hopefully he can make any note to make the supervisor review it faster... praying now.. =.= .. this process is driving me crazy.

Does not make any sense if u saw officer who interviewed you had your case,It’s up to him now not service center, all papers in his hands.

I finally got approved for my green card and received my card 1 week ago , I filled in April 2018 to Vermont and then transferred to Texas , got and RFE then approved on December 2019 , It was a very hard time,  frustration , seeing other Cases being approved , feeling almost endless and hopeless , thank you all for the information shared in this forum , it was really useful !.

We're in Washington, DC.  Even though they have the file at the local DC office, they did NOT do a combo interview.  His I-751 application was sitting right on the desk when she did his N-400 interview.   I went with him for the interview but they said they didn't need me there.

No. The letter was for N400 interview . Since we have the pending status on GC condition removal so it was combo.

Plus Officer mentioned in the beginning of the interview. I think in most cases like ours it is always combo and letter will not say it.

But if you have scenario like ours then highly recommend to have your Spouse with you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, it’s a big help.

I got an appointment for N400 interview in two weeks. I called the service hotline but was told it will only be for N400 if the letter doesn’t say i751 too. Good that I checked visa journey too. I was about to go alone because the interview is at 0645, so I ask my husband to stay home and take the kids to school instead of coming with me.

so guess the whole family is going just in case it’s a combo like yours, just let the kids be late to school.

When is your interview? Mine is on Jan 28. Could you share after your interview if you have a combo or just N400?

TIA

It has been a long wait - I submitted my i-751 in April of 2018 and a lot have happened since then. I got divorce last year i.e. Sept 2019. While my divorce was still pending, I got myself a lawyer and we sent in a letter informing USCIS about my impending divorce and later served them the final divorce decree when it became available. During this wait, my 18 months extension elapsed - I scheduled an infopass interview to get an extension for 1 year. That same day I got a letter for interview for the i-751 - I went for the interview today with my lawyer and am so pleased to announce that my application was approved on the spot and my status online have since changed to "New card being produced".

I just want to take everyone that have shared their update and have encouraged the rest of us with their good news. I thank God for this miracle and pray that everyone still waiting God will show up for you.

Remain blessed and see y'll when am eligible for citizenship.
