So once we complete the citizenship exam and interview - if successful, what is the next step in the process?  Swearing in ceremony? Do we get to choose where when want to be sworn in at? How long does it usually take to get a swearing in day?

The next step is to attend the Oath Ceremony. According to my immigration lawyer you receive a letter to attend the scheduled Oath Ceremony of the following month of your interview. I am in Fresno CA, so I am not sure if the wait times are the same in your location. The day of the Oath Ceremony you receive your Certificate and from what I have read, you need to apply for your U.S. Passport and register to vote.

Best of luck to you on the next step.

Hi everybody!

I just finished my N-400 interview and want to share my experience with you! I was applying based on the 3 years rule (marriage to a US citizen).

First the officer asked me to raise my hand and swear that I will tell the truth. Then he asked for my green card to check me in and started with the reading and writing tests which were very simple. There was a tablet in front of me. A sentence showed up on the tablet and the officer asked me to read it. And then he asked me to write a sentence on the tablet. it was something like" The president lives in the white house."

Then I took the civic test. Here are the 6 questions I was asked:

1- name three cabinet levels.

2- Who is the Governor of your state?

3- There were 13 original states. Name three.

4- Who vetoes bills?

5- Who signs bills to become laws?

6-Before he was President, Eisenhower was a general. What war was he in?

Then he went to my N-400 form and asked the following questions:

my name,

date of birth,

phone number,

address,

job,

trips outside of US,

my husband name,

date of marriage

whether I have children or not

Have I ever been cited or arrested (I told him that I had two traffic tickets and he said we are good)

and all those yes/no questions. Just let the officer finish his sentence before saying yes or no. At the end he handed me a paper that says Congratulations! your application has been recommended for approval😍

There was an Oath ceremony today and I told him I may not be able to make it. he said it's fine and I can go to the one tomorrow.

The only documents I was asked to show were my passport and green card.

Generally, it was a very easy and straight forward interview.

My journey has almost came to the end. I wish the best for all of you and hope you all celebrate your US citizenship soon! :)

Morning, guys.

Had my interview yesterday.

We started with reading test. The text was: 'What state has the most people?"

The  writing part - "California has the most people".

After that we moved to the civic test. Got 6 questions - done. Then went through my N-400 application. Like really briefly -  i was asked just a few questions and that's it.

This morning I received  an email  - APPROVED !!!

Now waiting for Oath Ceremony to be scheduled.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!!  You'll make it - it seems "scarier" than it really is! :)

Hi everyone,

I made it! Got approved for citizenship today.

When I went in, the officer told me to stay standing and raise my hand to swear that I would tell the truth.

Afterwards, I presented my green cards and passports.

Then we started off with the tests.

English test:

Reading - Read from tablet

Writing - Wrote down what the officer said on the tablet.

Civics test:

1. Who vetos Bills?

2. If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes the president?

3. How many U.S Senators are there?

4. Who is the Chief Justice of United States now?

5. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

6. Name two national U.S holidays

Interview regarding my N-400:

1. Confirmed my address and phone number

2. Confirm my husband lives with me - Officer saw my husband at the waiting room

3. Asked briefly about my overseas trips

4. Asked what I did for work

5. Asked about my speeding ticket

6. Standard "Yes" or "No" questions

After I passed, the officer asked if I had any trips coming up. And schedule my Oath Ceremony on Sept 26 :) (Couldn't update the form for some reason). I was out of there under 20 minutes - it took a while longer since the officer's printer didn't work.

Good luck to everyone, and I want to thank you all for the help and support through this process!

Oath ceremony scheduled Oct 3.🥳

Hi jslekcun

Do you happen to know if you oath ceremony is administrative or judicial? My wife has her interview on October 3rd in Raleigh. We want to process a name change for her but in order to do so the oath ceremony will need to be held by a judge (judicial). I don't know if and when Raleigh has that type of ceremony and if we could go to Charlotte, just to speed up the process.
