Everyone deserves to find love and happiness with whoever they choose. I don't know the whole story, so I won't jump to the conclusions that so many other have. I wish your friend luck whatever he chooses to do.

A good attitude.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

How can you seem to be okay with this situation that seems highly fraudulent to say the least? I honesty don't understand.. Why on earth would you even consider trying to help them gather evidence for a K1 petition in the current situation? Please help me understand.. 😰

Daphne, I appreciate your concern. It's not up to me to be "okay" or "not okay" in this. They are two grown adults, and I cannot prohibit them to do what they want.

A question to you: How can you be 100% sure it's a scam? Are you an oracle? You can see into the future?

Folks, let's avoid lecturing the OP.  His friend's case is his friend's case, and the friend will incorporate any cautions that the OP considers appropriate to relate.

OP, if your questions have been answered and you wish for this thread to be closed (= 100% your decision), hit the "report post" button and so request.

Please do not close this topic. They are not "lecturing" me, I understand everyone's concern, the situation is somewhat peculiar.

I am still waiting for more suggestions of how they can prove that the meeting happened WITHIN LAST 2 YEARS.

The idea with the newspaper is off the table, my friend agreed.

Ahh, she's coming to Nogales from Tijuana so it truly is a "neutral" meeting site. You still want to take precautions on a meeting like this but this seems less scammy.

The "Uncle" who is willing to co-sponsor doesn't necessarily raise a red flag. Many Latin Americans have US relatives that are willing help relations who are attempting to legally immigrate. My own wife had an Uncle who assisted us, including financially, in our relationship and immigration journey.

Good luck to the OP's friend, and thanks to the OP for sharing the story.

I described it as a case that seems to be highly fraudulent to say the least.. And for that reason I can not bring myself to think about suggestions on how they can prove or document their meeting as proof for their K1 petition.. So I will step out now!

Thanks for the advice. I do NOT get involved in this. I just provide my friend with information when he needs it.

As to them continuing to "date", it's not really practical. She lives in Tijuana, he in Arizona (look at the map), it's quite a distance.  She is willing to drive all the way to Nogales to meet him, and he appreciates this.

I don't think they both can afford traveling back and forth a lot.

Also, when you are at his age, an idea of a long-distance dating seems ridiculous. How much years are there left to enjoy life, who knows?

Most of us managed much greater distances and continued to date.

My boyfriend/fiancé/husband was over 5000 miles away. I did what I had to do. I couldn't just drive across the border for casual drinks. How I wish I could have...

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Yep. When you love someone you make it work. You do what you have to do. We made our LDR work for.. like 10ish years, and a couple of those years we couldn't visit each other, just to save up. My god, it drove us insane sometimes, but we never gave up.

Same here.   16 hour flight, and 3+ years of regular visits before marrying.  Thousands and thousands of dollars spent. Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I still can’t imagine marrying someone after a casual bar date.
