Not sure how to title this but has anyone here had a party once your SO got here even though you are already married? Is this kind of tacky since these people were not invited to the wedding ceremony?

I kind of feel jipped that I didn't get to have a little party with a cake and all that and I thought of having a small one when he gets here since it would be a nice way for the neighbors to get introduced to him as well so they don't all get weirded out that all of a sudden there's this guy they've never seen before hanging out around the house.

How would one even word the invitation? "hey....come meet the new immigrant!!" rofl. I kind of feel weird doing it but I want to do something, you know? Any thoughts?

We were married here, of course, since Wadi came on a K1. But we were legally married 4 months before we had our wedding reception.

I got great feedback from guests. They were happy to come to a celebration and not attend a ceremony. People understand that the immigration process often means that you can't do things "traditionally".

I can't remember the exact wording of our invitations, but it was something like "Jenn and Wadi were married in Cambridge on January 20, 2006. You are cordially invited to a reception in their honor at...." Sort of a wedding announcement combined with a reception invitation.

I think it's a great idea and you should go for it. Jenn's invitations that were also wedding announcements sound really cool to me and a great way to quickly explain what's going on. Then have the party you wanted.

We actually went back to Canada almost a year later (due to circumstances out of our control, we wanted to go back earlier) and had TWO "open houses" to celebrate our marriage. Our invitations / newspaper announcement basically said "Come celebrate our marriage with us!" They were great parties, and people were happy to come see us in our wedding outfits, look at our pictures, and meet Jerry if they hadn't had the chance to yet. Oh, and to eat lots of yummy treats! :) Some people brought presents, we didn't care, that wasn't the point, really. We had lots of fun just seeing everyone.

I would word your invitations like " He's finally here! Please come join us to celebrate our marriage and to welcome [insert SO's name here] to America!" Go for it and have a great time! :)

Ok sounds good. Now the tricky part.......I kinda wanna kill two birds with one stone here by introducing him to the nosey neighbors and celebrating our marriage.

I know the neighbors as in , "hi Al, how ya doin'", but that's about it. Not enough to really invite to a wedding reception which would entail giving a gift and all.

Do I have two parties..........one for the peeps who are close enough to celebrate the wedding reception and one for just introducing the new guy to the neighbors?

If you got gifts from family/friends already, I wouldn't have another reception because then people might make the assumption that you're angling for more gifts. That sort of thing has to be handled delicately.

You could just organize a garden party or BBQ which would solve the problem of what to call the party and how to deal with people close to you and people you've just met, i.e. the neighbors.

Or she could just say not to bring gifts on the invitation.

See therein lies the rub.:lol: Not one person in my family has given me a dang thing!!!!! I want something!!! lol. I just don't want the neighbors to think they have to give me anything.

Maybe I'll just do the barbeque thing, if he gets here during barbeque weather, and just hope that some family members actually have the insight to know that I could use a new set of pots and pans, etc.

Doodle,

We had a bbq 6 months after we married at our house for people who couldnt come to the wedding. Also Gary's parents were here then as well. I think the informal setting made everyone feel comfortable.
