100% effective with perfect use*. Real world usage, well...

*I think 1 exception applies

@OP

"Best" and "safest" are subjective and based upon one's circumstances and goals.

"The pill" is one of the most common and most easily accessible options, but some people don't react well to it (side effects and/or risk factors). There's 2 primary forms of the pill, and many variations within that. It does require following a fairly strict daily routine, though.

A shot (i.e. depo) is simpler in terms of maintenance - generally it's once every 3 months, has less side effects than the pill, etc. But it can also take longer to return to normal fertility if you stop taking it.

There are many, many other options available (IUDs, condoms, etc.), each with their own pros and cons. Speak with a doctor about what's best for you and your circumstances. What works for one person might be awful for another, or vice versa.

The daughter is 10 months old? Is your wife breastfeeding? Supposedly, she can't get pregnant while she's breastfeeding but one can't depend on that for sure. Additionally, over the counter bc pills might have an effect on her breastfeeding so you might want to take that into consideration.

Geowrian is right, it is best to speak to a doctor about it. Women have different reaction to pills. Cost of bc pills here range from 35 pesos to 900 pesos. A visit to OB-Gyn is about 250 pesos to 500 pesos.

Good lord if I had a dollar for everytime people thought they couldn't get pregnant while breastfeeding, I'd have 10 bucks just from family members.

She should talk to her dr about birth control. Double up by using condoms and hormonal birth control. She could also track her cycle too to figure out her fertile days and avoid traditional intercourse during those days.

I don't know where that comes from but I promise it is not true.  That one and the one that says you can't get pregnant the first time you have sex are always so prevalent.  I also have family members who got pregnant while breast feeding AND a cousin who got pregnant on the first time.  How do these stories stay around?

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.

It can help but it's certainly not fool proof or a way I'd recommend to anyone!

I got pregnant on a day we didn't use birth control. Yeah you can get pregnant with one "I forgot" if the timing is right.  That's how I have a 16 year old.

On a side note, I once saw a young lady who kept going into premature contractions, during an early pregnancy, because she was still breast feeding her 19 month old.......

What part of Philippines?  Davao area we had a hard time finding a doctor who would give a depo shot to my fiancé,  they told her she was too young and others told her she would become sterile from getting depo shot at age 19.

Best thing we found was going to Mercury Drug and get a birth control pills made by Pfizer, I am wanting to say we pay about $2 US Dollars per a 30 day supply.  We now just buy stock and bring them back to USA
