Cr-1 visa application in US embassy Singapore

May I know if it’s sensible to make a CR-1 visa application here in Singapore than do it in my home land (Philippines) ?

I’m married to a US citizen for months now. But decided to comeback to work here in Singapore while my husband is back to work in US. I thought it may take awhile to get a visa process in the Philippines so while waiting and start filling a visa application will carry on my work!

Best regards

Actually I really want to know if we can do the CR-1 visa application here in Singapore instead?  We got married in Philippines though

We’ll be submitting the application say next week. But considering that I’m still working here (Singapore) might as well apply here instead. Is it possible or we have to do the visa application in the Philippines?

If you haven't submitted your petition yet, you won't be "applying" for a CR1 to any country. Your US citizen spouse will first send the petition packet to the lockbox in the US. Then it will be sent to a service center in the US to be processed. AFTER the petition is approved, then it will be sent to the NVC stage (national visa center) when your USC spouse will then submit the I-864 and you will fill out the DS-260. Then, it will be forwarded to the embassy in where you live and you will be contacted for an interview in Singapore at the last stage. Please read the guides on the CR-1 process.

Our CR1 Journey:

USCIS Stage:

  • Feb 14 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • July 31 2019: I129f NOA1
  • Sep 19 2019: I129f NOA2 (Denied - 50 days from NOA1)
  • Sep 19 2019: I130 NOA2 (Approved - 217 days from NOA1)

NVC Stage:

  • Sep 27 2019: Sent to Department of State
  • Oct 31 2019: Case number received (34 days since sent)
  • Nov 1 2019: IV & AOS fees received & paid
  • Nov 14 2019: IV & AOS submitted
  • Dec 18 2019: All docs accepted, but one additional doc requested (5 weeks from submission)
  • Dec 18 2019: Requested doc submitted
  • Feb 19 2020: Documentarily Qualified (9 weeks from 2nd submission, 14 weeks from first submission)

Interview Stage:

  • Mar 11 2020: Interview letter received
  • Apr 1 2020: Interview date
  • Mar 17 2020: Interview cancelled due to COVID-19
  • August 3 2020: Rescheduled letter received, new appointment August 25 2020
  • August 25 2020: Visa approved at interview! (558 days from NOA1)
  • September 10 2020: Embassy received passport in mail
  • September 15 2020: Passport with visa in hand

October 11 2020: Arrived in US!

Correct.  If things change in the next year or so, and you are no longer living in Singapore, the case can be transferred to Manila.

The term "apply for" get's misused a lot.  Just understand the difference between the petitioner "filing a petition" and what comes later is the beneficiary (foreign spouse, in this case) applying for a visa.  The I-130 is not a visa application.  USCIS doesn't issue visas.

The US Citizen is the primary person that needs to learn the process.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
