I did my medical around November and yes, I'm planning on submitting my AOS packet soon!

Then, you should only need DS-3025. However, I am going to let someone who has filled the newer forms @andyazcu jump in on this.

Also, I am pretty sure that if your DS 3025 is marked “complete”, this overrides the need of filling out the i693.

Yes! Today I went to a Deferred Inspection Office and handed the packet out.

I have another question about the medical forms for the AOS. Did you guys have to certify the Form I-693 by a civil surgeon? And what does  "If overseas medical expired" mean exactly? How can I check?

Thank you again!!

As others have stated the Form DS-3025 should suffice for your medical examination for the AOS packet.

Like @Fe.Ta  my wife also did her medical again here so we did submit the form I-693 where you have to go to a civil surgeon to have it performed. We basically went there because we weren't sure at the time if the Form DS-3025 was valid or not to include in the packet.

The medical expired note refers to as long as you file your AOS within a year that the beneficiary had their medical done then you shouldn't have to get the examination again. So for example if the beneficiary had their medical done in January of 2020, then as long as you file for AOS in between January-December of 2020 then it should be valid.

Nonetheless, as @Fe.Ta mentioned in another reply, other members here can give you a better answer as to whether submit the form DS-3025 or not.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Today my husband (from Argentina) and I received an RFE to our I-485 for a birth certificate and English translation. I don't understand why they're sending us an RFE when our original packet had the Acta de Nacimiento and a translation, which I did myself (fluent in English and Spanish) and had notarized. The only thing we can think of is that our photocopy of the Acta de Nacimiento was not a good one...it was a photo taken of the original and scanned into our computer. Could this be the problem or am I missing something? Has anyone else received an RFE for the birth certificate and translation when you already submitted both?

It might be what you said, that you scanned the original. Was that all you submitted? Just 1 page + translation?

We sent the PDF we received from the civil registry + apostille (4 pages + 4 pages translated):

Page 1: Birth certificate with date, place, and time of birth, parents names, official CABA municipal stamp, signature and stamp of civil registry
Page 2: Explains it's certified from the civil registry and says copia fiel del original, also has the legalization signed and stamped by Ministerio del Interior
Page 3: Additional signatures page

Page 4: Apostilla, signed and stamped by the Cancilleria

@sjhedquist I forgot to ask: Did you do the legalization and apostille in Argentina? If you didn’t, then that could be the issue.

Hey, everyone! Since I am to applying for AOS after the Public Charge law went into effect, I think I must fill this form: I-944. Could you confirm? Also, is my wife considered a member of my household?

Yes and yes.

Wondering if anyone else did this... We decided to "check the box" on getting the SSN with the EAD since it is suppose to arrive within 1 week after the EAD is approved.

In retrospect, this might not have been the best choice. Without a SSN for my husband, its been a headache (couldn't add to insurance, can't put him on bank accounts or open one, etc.). We figured we would wait it out, but now with the RFE and seeing some of the other timelines, I'm starting to get concerned. Just wondering if anyone else did the SSN with EAD option and if it worked out.

We assumed we would get our SSN/EAD/AP pretty early on (4-6 months) and be waiting a while for an interview (12-15 months) based off timelines/research. I know if you get issued SSN prior to the EAD, it will be marked with a red "not valid for work" stamp, which you have to go again and get an updated one with the approved EAD.

From those getting the RFE/Birth Certificate - it seems like interviews are coming up a lot faster and now I'm getting a little nervous that we will have very little time between his SSN getting issued/getting added to accounts for the additional evidence of a "bona fide relationship" for the green card interview.

Our RFE was delivered to the PO Box today, so I was just going to wait and see if we get a response on anything, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask others about their experience or any advice/thoughts on this. 😕

We went to apply for our SSN within a week of him arriving and got the actual card about four weeks later. The card itself says something like “only valid for work with DHS authorization”, which means we will be able to use it once the EAD arrives without needing to update it (even though we will check on this of course). No idea where you got that it would need updating or that it would say not valid for work. Unless, it might be something specific to the state.

When we submitted the AOS we checked “already issued by SSA” and left the “get SSN” (I believe it was questions 14 and 15) blank to avoid getting a duplicate SSN or accidentally not getting one at all.

Without SSN you can’t do a lot of cohabitating things such as insurance, etc.

Can you get him into the lease or deed of the house/apt? Try to get other things you CAN do while you wait. Then, just try to get a couple of months in. I don’t know how many months they are looking into, but if you do get the EAD within the window you said (4-5), then you might still have 6 months worth by the time of the interview (12 months), so you could be OK.

When we submitted AOS and EAD forms we did check to issue a new one because we didn't see an option like "Already issued/requested SSN". My wife got the SSN from the Administration office which took 3 weeks after we applied. Then another was issued through the EAD form and we just went to the Administration and cancelled that one. We explained the situation and they had no problem in cancelling one and keeping the other one.

Note: In the last page of the EAD form, where you can give extra information for each question, we did explain that we had requested one already but just in case we were checking the option to issue one through EAD.

Thanks for everyone answering questions in this thread! Is good to keep it alive while everyone go through the process. Sorry I haven’t been around the past week to help (went to sky with my brother that is visiting).
glad to read people is getting good updates!
for those getting the pointless RFE, hang in there! Everything will be fine!

Glad to be of any help.  Thank you for creating it and always being so helpful.

I would like to ask others who submit the AOS packet after the February 24th deadline to please update this thread with a new AOS checklist and things people should/could include to make sure they meet the new requirements (just like there is one at the beginning of this thread).  It would help those of us that answer questions keep in touch with the new and continue to be helpful.  Just a thought.
