He can attend a school but cannot legally receive employment compensation untill he has his SSN and EAD authorization. Each school will be able to addressed this issue so before enrolling get your questions answered.  I really don't see any issue.

Right.  Great!  That's what we wanted to know.  We already contacted the school and they said he can apply and start his studies, he is just not eligible for scholarships.  Thank you for confirming!

You have to complete the EAD form and send more passport photos. It takes between 6-8 months to have it and to be able to work. AOS takes between 12-18 months

I thought AOs also took 6-8 months. I hope a year is not the minimum wait.

Would the Advanced Parole application allow my wife to travel to go get her degree at the ceremony and get her transcript process started? Or for that kind of travel would she only be strictly limited to have a green card to exit the country? Anybody have an idea about this?

That’s the timeline the USCIS website have. And that’s the one we have to trust. You can also check general forums and VJ timelines and you will see the same. Is discouraging but is the true.

Of course there are faster cases but is more common to wait a long journey.

Advance parole is recommended to be use to leave the country under emergency. You can see more info about it in the USCIS website. From what I read, you shouldn’t abuse AP to leave the country all the time. Wait for GC for that.

I just checked the website and the wait time goes from 8.5 - 43 months. I don't know which one is more discouraging lol. At least the work permit shows 3 - 5 months.

Thanks for the info.

I think he can. I would ask in a general forum if some more paperwork is needed for that.

Thank you!  Can he go to school in the meantime, since he has a SSN and the paperwork would have been filed?  Or do we have to wait for the AOS and EAD for that?

We went in to the college where my husband wants to apply.  The people were a little confused about how to handle our unique situation but basically we concluded that he will need to apply as an international student but instead of getting the normal student visa and student visa paperwork requirements they will indicate K1 visa instead.  We just need to get him accepted and registered before the K1 visa expires at the end of September.  So we are rushing to have him take the TOEFL (English language test) which is a requirement for international student applications.  The nice thing now is that we have a specific contact at the college who understands our situation and can work with us.

Hope this helps.  I think we have a similar timeline so it may be a good idea to check out TOEFL or other English language test which I assume are a requirement for most international student applications.

Thank you for your input.  It was helpful.  In our case, he will be attending a technical college and will not need to apply as an international student or take the TOEFL, which it is helpful.  It was good we called ahead of time before applying and wasting additional resources.  I would suggest for others to do the same, since clearly each college/school will require different things.  Best of luck to you!

Question:  My fiance declined to get the vaccines in Argentina.  We are planning to submit the AOS by the end of August.  The medical should still be valid because he did it in May.  However, he does not have the vaccines.  Can we get them with a private doctor through our insurance and have that added to the AOS.  Or, how would this work?

I read in a general thread that you have to go to the USCIS website and there’s a tab that says ‘Find a doctor’ something like that. Those are all doctor approved by them to complete medical exams. I hope you can find it.

In the July 2019 AOS filers thread, there was an argentinian girl dealing with the same thing. I don’t remember if she was able to solve it.

OK, so he needs to do another medical exam here and it must be done before or after AOS?

Not a whole medical exam. Just the vaccine record. You can do it now and send it complete. Or send what you have now and expect a RFE later. There’s people in different areas that can’t find a doctor near them. Maybe you’ll be lucky and find one to help you

From my experience after calling the clinic that has a Civil Surgeon (USCIS doctor) they said from their general experience people come in every day to get the medical to either take it to the interview or send it separately. Also just like someone said in another response, make sure you pick a doctor that is designated by USCIS.

Just to add another information, the website for the form i-485 says that you can send the medical examination either with AOS, after AOS or bring it at the interview. My wife has her appointment next week and we will be sending the medical form next week or after. Let's see how that goes haha.

So it's been 1 week and 2 days since I mailed everything for AOS and EAD. Someone received it and signed it the next day and still no word from them. I called my bank and they confirmed me that the money orders haven't been reconciled. I'm starting to get impatient 😂
