Hi All,

My fiancee's interview is tomorrow and we are SO nervous. Can anyone share what their personal interview experience was like? We are thoroughly prepared and have a ton of documentation but I'm just curious to know what the overall vibe was like during the interview. What reasons would they have to deny the visa? Will she know right then and there at the end of the interview if it has been approved or not? Thanks in advance!

If you go back through this thread, we all have shared. Also, look up Argentina Consulate/Embassy and there are ratings there. Did you check my timeline? I believe that I shared how ours went.

The overall vibe is professional, serious but not intimidating. Reasons for denial can be several, it depends on each case and the impression of the officer. You may or may not know on the spot, since they could ask for other things as follow-up before approval.

Here is ours:

Everyone was extremely cordial. While some were more serious than others, everything was very organized, well directed, and everyone was cordial and very courteous while we were there fore my fiance's K1 visa interview.

In case you do not know, when you go for the interview, make sure you approach an officer or worker that is handling the line outside. You tell the officer that you are there for a non-immigrant K1 visa interview and he/she will make you skip the line and direct you to one of the windows in the front. The person in the window will give you a green binder with a sticky note that says you got to windows 4 and 5 so everyone is aware. They will take you through security. You SHOULD NOT take any mobile phones or electronics and avoid any weapons (pepper spray, etc.). For guys, my fiance avoided wearing a belt. For ladies, I took a small purse with the basics and avoided too much jewelry. You then go to the window #4 and the person in charge will also take you through the side of the line so your fingerprints (beneficiary's) can be taken. Once that is done, you walk over the window #5 and you must approach the police officer there. You need to explain (once again) that you are there for a K1 interview so he/she can take you into the reception without making the line outside. The lady in the reception area knew my fiance's name because they were expecting us, so she directed us over the chair area in the left-hand side where we waited to be called. We then started gathering the documents on the list in front of the green binder, mainly originals. Then, my fiance was called to one of the windows (more like a room) where he took the binder and was asked for anything that could be missing. He then came back and waited to be called a second time for the actual interview. We were there from 10:05 (our interview was at 10:30) until about 12:30ish. The actual interview was short (not even 10 minutes). The officer was cordial and direct. Overall, we felt very comfortable and very well treated. Even though my fiance felt a bit intimidated, he agreed that everyone was super helpful and nice to him and that helped him with his nerves.

WE hope some of this details help in giving peace of mind to those that follow.

You are so welcome. No worries. We understand. Will you be attending the interview with her?

Unfortunately, no. I am already back in the states. I was there with her for three months from October to January and we were hoping to get the interview during that time but it took a little longer than expected.

Makes sense.  Well, here are some tips:

  • Arrive with enough time to go pass security, etc. and still be inside the last office building at least 20 minutes before the appointment.
  • Don't take too many things and use lockers if possible so she doesn't have the phone and other unnecessary things with her.  If she can avoid taking the phone altogether, even better.  We didn't trust the lockers so we left ours in our apartment and just took cabs.
  • Tell her to dress in something that she feels both confident and comfortable.  Yes, dressing to impress is always good but not if it is going to make her awkward because she does not feel confident or comfortable in it.
  • If she can, try to spark up a conversation with someone there.  Not only will this make the wait seem shorter but she would seem more natural and relaxed.  As @Fer Schvarztman said, I don't know if they are watching or hearing while you wait, but definitely don't be practicing things or anything.  We just took everything and just engaged in conversation with ourselves (I was with him) or with other people in a nonchalant manner.
  • Answer as needed and just be truthful, no need to overcompensate with details or overshare.  Plus, trying to impress too much could come off as lying.
  • As with any interview, if she does not understand the question or needs clarification, ask them to repeat the question.  It is better for her to make sure what is being asked than answer the wrong thing.
  • If she has a language preference, she can ask for that and it won't hurt her.  My husband spoke Spanish and he got approved.
  • If she doesn't remember, she can be honest.  Even wrong things that seem natural won't count against her.  But, if she can be prepared or at least knowledgeable, then the "wrong" thing won't seem unusual (after all we all have slurs from time to time).

I don't know what else, but feel free to ask or anyone else can jump in.

@MikeyBee My fiancee had her interview on Monday.

Make sure she has all the documents required.

Tell her to be ready for a long wait. We waited 3 hours for the interview.

Once inside, they will first call her to present some documents, mostly originals.

I was with her, but the consul didn't let me in. The interview itself was less than 10 minutes long and the consul ask her some general questions.

He will tell her right there if the visa is approved.

OMG this is incredible. Thank you so much for taking the time to out this together!! We just FaceTimed and made sure (again) that we have everything ready to go and I think we are more than prepared. Thanks again and hopefully I'll be reporting tomorrow that we've been approved!

Thank you so much! I'm feeling confident but this is all a new process and super stressful. Fingers crossed!

You are very welcome. I shared things like this before, but from time to time I will put it again so it is in the “newer” part of the thread for those to follow. The best of luck and keep us posted!

Hey there! Everything will be alright. As everyone said, make sure to have every document with you and answer every question honestly and sure.
In my timeline I have a detailed review from my experience at the embassy if you want to check it out.
