I-485 is for changing status of your entry visa without you leaving the US. So yes, you'll need an interview for that. Biometrics is just fingerprinting stuff and yes you'll do biometrics and interview both at different times separately. Usually interview is the final step in this process.

Thanks for that, is is normal that they request biometrics for the work permit too? The letter specifically says its for the adjust of status and work permit. Do you know how long after biometrics they schedule an interview?

That's the ideal case that you've received a letter mentioning both I-765 and I-485. People sometime receive 1 and keep wondering what will happen for the other one. Regarding time line, it always depends from case to case and location to location. You can check people's profile here to get idea who applied in the same field office as yours.

That's true. I am not K1 but I saw K1s don't need I-693 for the reason you mentioned.

that's what happened to me.

Nope, strangely my status changed to "Ready to be Scheduled for Interview" a couple of days after I got my RFIE. A few days after that change I got the courtesy letter. I didn't send the RFIE response in until a couple weeks later.

I think the location is probably whats confusing me a little, we discovered today we're going to be at the Atlanta field office, by going on processing times on the USCIS website, they dont seem to deal with work permits

work permits are dealt by NBC (National Benefit Center), I-485 will be dealt by your field office.

huh that's interesting. i was hoping that receiving the courtesy letter meant we were closer to the end 😂i guess that's not the case.

i noticed that you expedited your ead due to financial loss, did uscis ask for proof for that reason?

i'm thinking to expedite it too. thank you.

They usually ask for evidence for expedite requests; I did include a summary of student loans and lost income if I had to quit my job (I'm adjusting from F1). With a valid job offer you can probably make the argument that there is severe financial loss for not being able to work but, as with everything USCIS related, in the end it'll come down to whether you get lucky with whoever reviews your request.

yeah sadly thats not the case for me, my biometrics only had the EAD casenumber in it and even the officer told me i need to come back. So i put a service request and they said no biometrics yet cuz of background check...

It feels like no one else had this problem

I've had that problem too! I had my biometrics for EAD at the beginning of the month. I phoned USCIS shortly afterwards to ask when I would have my biometrics for AOS. The agent on my phone assured me I would only have one set taken. Even after I explained that I knew other people had had two sets taken, he still insisted they would use the one set for both applications.

Guess what? My biometrics appointment letter for AOS just arrived today. 🙄
