Thanks for the info. My wife signed the 129f and our marriage certificate in Thai. I suggested maybe she will sign in thai and english on documents from now on.

We just applied for her social security card. it will get in a few weeks we hope. we elected to wait until after we married to apply for her ssn. although, her arrival is not yet updated in SAVE. the social security office worker did all are paper work and stated she will check periodically to see when SAVE updates, then submit our paperwork.

We just need to make sure all our paperwork is correct and we will send it in...

Does anyone know if its better to wait to get the ssn before submitting the AOS paperwork, or just send the AOS and don't worry about the ssn for now?

I believe if you don't follow the VJ K1 Flowchart with regards to getting a SSN, you will have to wait until you have either an EAD or GC. Which considering current processing times entails a bit under a year, and likely some time over a year, respectively.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

we have not submitted the aos yet. we didn't know if it was better to wait until she has an ssn because some questions on the form ask(albeit optionally) the ssn.

Oh I understand you now. No, you can submit the AOS without the SSN on hand. It's just preferred to apply for the SSN before getting married and doing AOS, but if you have already applied for it you don't have to wait to physically get the SSN card before applying.

We got married on a Friday, went straight to the SSA office, then the next day shipped off our AOS paperwork.

Hey guys have you received a text message that your applications have been received? I got mine 2 days ago so I would really hope you got some notice by now.

Congrats on receiving notification! We are still waiting but hopefully we hear something back soon. My wife really is not looking forward to putting another packet together.

Did you set up a bank account together yet. or put him on your insurance?

I think we need to wait for ssn for that.

I have heard some people say, setting up a joint back account or putting your new spouse on your insurance is recommended before sending off the AOS

Hopefully you did send form G-1145 with your AOS form, travel documents and your EAD documents right? I feel bad because it's no joke waiting for these people to do their job and seems like every month they get more and more backed up. Please let me know when you get some notice. Hang in there!!!

I spoke to my HR and they put him on my medical insurance without the social security, but we have dragged our feet on putting him on the lease and the bank acct. We will do the bank account on Saturday but the leasing agency charges 50 dollars to add him and we are moving in 2 months so we dont know if it's worth it. Dont worry about submitting all that with AOS though. Keep all that proof for the interview.

Most banks will allow you to open or be added to a non-interest-bearing account without an SSN.  The reason being there is no income for the bank to report to the IRS because you will not be getting any interest accruals.

If you're moving in two months I would question whether it's really worth it to add him, TBH.

Thanks c&j. That was a detailed response. Thanks for sharing the links. Perfect! :)

Our application has gone to National Benefits Center and the processing time for work authorization and advance parole is 6-8 months. Kinda disappointed by knowing that. Hope it expedite it :) I also keep getting those still under review emails and messages and I login and check on myuscis but there is no change. Maybe those emails or msgs are sent in error cause it shows my I-129F approval date.
