Hello,

From my understanding, you husband has to enter into the States before Nov. 22, 2019, otherwise, the visa expires, and you have to start the immigration process all over again.

Once you passed the final interview at any POE, the green card will mail it your registered address within 3 weeks.

Thank you so much for replying!  Does the green card then replace the visa pasted into the passport?

Hi,

My husband just received his CR-1 visa.  I was wondering why it says that it will expire in 6 months.  The date is November 22, 2019.  Is this because he should have his green card in hand by then? Or is this a mistake on his visa?

Thank you!

Immigrant visas are good for 6 months.  They are meant to coincide with when the medical exam results expire.  He has 6 months to travel to the USA--once he's here,  he will be in good shape.  He'll then get his Green Card.  If he doesn't received his Green Card in 45 days, call USCIS.

Yes.  The Green Card is proof that your husband can live and work in the US permanently.  The visa is the document that allows your husband to enter the country as a permanent resident in your husband's case.

Yes, it does.

Your husband will no longer need that visa once he's here in the States.

Congrats on finishing everything! My wife is still waiting for the interview letter....

The answer to this is not a straightforward yes or no answer but for simplicity sake I'll say 'yes'.  This is why it's not straightforward yes or no - So when you enter the US the visa will be stamped with a I-551 stamp which then temporarily acts as your 'green card' sort of. The visa combined with the I-551 as a matter of fact proves your permanent residency status until your actual physical green card is sent to you. Basically, this means that until your physical green card is sent to you, the visa+I551 stamp combination can be used to apply for work, even leave and return back to the US if you want, use that to apply for SSN, get a driver's license, etc. Once you get the physical green card, it will supersede the visa+I551 in usage so you'll have to use that going forward.

CC-03/19/19

Interview-05/09/19

he got his visa on 05/17/19

note: when we when to the interview the co didn’t receive the medical exam and because of that we had to wait a little longer than usual to get the passport with the visa. But usually in DR most people get it in between 3 or 5 business days.

How many weeks or days before the interview did your husband do the medical exam?

Anyone else waiting for MUMBAI embassy interview appointment? Im wondering if they give out notices at the end of the May month for the beginning of the July interviews. Seem for June they have out notices for end of June interviews, during the Mid of May

.

Got our CC on May 1st (Mumbai embassy).

And I don’t think they’ll give out anymore dates this month. Almost everyone who got their interview notifications got it on May 9th and I think one person got it on the 13th or 14th. From the previous months too, they’ve given out dates only once or twice a month and it’s usually in the beginning or the middle of the month for the Mumbai embassy. So I think we’ll have to wait for the beginning of June for the July interviews.

Waiting on my interview as well.. CC 5/3 at Guatemala. I noticed lot of folks got interviews scheduled already.

My application status shows as "Completed" in ceac website. Should that be something like "Accepted" if it's ready for interview? I was wondering if I should call NVC. Thanks in advance. The visa status shows "at NVC"

The IV application should say 'Completed' while the Civil Docs will say 'Accepted'.  As long as you got the e-mail saying you're documentarily qualified, you're good to go.
