Hi everyone,

me and my boyfriend (US citizen) want to marry this summer and apply for the DFC in Ciudad Juarez. Do you think it is realistic to apply for the permanent residency in Mexico and get it within 1-2 months (that's the time it took for others in this forum, as far as I read so correct me if i'm wrong) and then apply for the DCF immediately after receiving the permanent residency in Mexico? Is that enough time to be allowed to get the US visa through the DCF? Or do you have any tips?

Thank you all in advance!

DCF will be gone by then.

No,   time is pretty much up.   Unless you  already have permanent residency in Mexico or show that you done a tourist visa run like JorgeV over the years you are not going to make it before DCF as we have done it ends.    You can still move to Mexico, get married and if you have an exceptional circumstance, like a US job offer, do DCF.

Immigration, err residency within Mexico, can move pretty slow.   In fact it is easy to do at a foreign post.   I already had Mexican PR and it took 5 hours to get Mary's PR entry visa done in Hong Kong.   But the packet I presented was about 2 inches think and more involved than the I-130/I-130A and I-864 done for US immigration.

Thank you both!

I lived in Mexico for one year, but that was from 2017-2018, would that change anything?

And do you really think time is up? If we marry lets say in July and then I get my residency by August/October and directly apply for the DCF then we still have three months until they maybe shut it down in 2020... or what do you think? I really really hope this can still work out

I can not find the prior posts but essentially there is a translation issue, guardianship may be a better English term.

@Paul & Mary Thanks for sharing this article! Very good to know. I did not know things are changing so quickly now.

But they say the office in mexico City is still open until the end of 2019, would that mean that there is still a chance for us to go there?

Who knows.   There isn't a public plan announced  but they did close Moscow this year pretty quickly without much notice.

I think you need to decide what works best for you between getting married later and possibly not having the DCF option or getting married soon and taking advantage of the current option.

When we got married last year we weren't really aware we could do a DCF and was expecting a 14 to 18 month process.  I had a former business attorney of ours, that now does immigration, tell us there was no way we could do DCF.  We got really lucky.

The article said it was closing in July.

Oh so nice, I'm happy it worked out for you! I think we will just try it and get married for sure because we really want to. And then maybe if we're lucky we can still get the visa via the DCF. If not, then we'll have to wait 😵

But only in Ciudad Juarez, but Mexico City not until January 2020 ... If things don't change surprisingly again ...

CDJ is where you go to for an Immigrant Visa so I assume that is the location that counts?

Unfortunately true :( We'll see, we will try to call the office in mexico city to see if it is possible to apply there too. Maybe in this situation of different offices closing this is possible. We'll try at least

Not only that, but they discontinued accepting DCF applications a month or more before the USCIS office there officially closed.
