Ok, I know this is a topic that has been brought up many times. We are ready to start our filing for AOS this week.

I plan on paying with a money order from a bank. If I researched right the correct payment is $1225.

Just please give us pointers on how to start, what needs to come from me, what needs to come from her, all the forms for her AOS, to be able to work, and travel.

Thanks in advance!!!

I urge you to also file the I-131 and I-765 along with the I-485.

Agreed with above, follow the guides here closely and you can file everything yourself. We used it and had zero issues during his AOS process. And yes, $1225 is total fee for the I-485 and biometrics.

Do not use a money order unless you can verify that it has been cashed.

Why is that? I really didn’t want to use a check... I was wanting something that would be withdrawn from my bank instantly...

I was able to pull most of the paperwork I needed from my I129F paperwork. I had 2 full copies of it, and just about everything you need for AOS is in there. Saved me from making more copies. And money order from bank should be fine, or a cashier's check. Easy to see if they have been cashed for free by checking with your bank. If you get a money order from Western Union, or a 7-11 or something it costs like 15 bucks, and takes 6 weeks to see if it was cashed, that is what the one poster was referring to. I used a credit card and earned 3x points on my 1225.00

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. Review my last post for the reason, it is worth the  7-10 bucks a bank charges for the cashier check as you will be able to easily see if it was cashed. Most banks if you hold a account there will give you one for free if you ask nicely.

Ok thanks! Is it ok to get a money order now even though we will be mailing everything in about a week or two?

Because this way you will have an additional tracking mechanism. If a personal check clears, the canceled check is proof the government got your application.

I don't know why you want to instantly withdraw the money. At 2% annual interest divided by 12, that's nearly $2 you are giving up for no good reason.

Because the checking account that I have checks with I use daily.

I don’t want it to go below that balance when USCIS gets it.

I have bad experience with writing checks now days... For example when I paid rent nearly a year ago with a check the landlord didn’t cash it until a month after.

Its personal reasons, was just wondering if a money order would be a good option also.

You use a check register, correct, to track written checks?

No. I never write checks normally. I keep up with my balance on my banks app and in my head.

The bank that I have checks with now is the one I use for my direct deposit, pay bills, and any daily things.

Apparently the idea of a money order is not a good one.

Maybe I should buy checks at my other bank (that I don’t use so much) for this.

Yeah, the only problem with bank checks if you forgot to monitor your balance on your checking and you don't have enough funds, then it will be overdraft. So get overdraft protection. :)
