Hello! I read the pdf file in this thread (thank you for that). I understand I should call about 30 days to receive my case number from the NVC. They haven’t received my case yet when I email to update my address. However I have two questions: I am unclear about the next steps. Can I work on the DS160 form and pay fees in the meantime? Is there anything my fiancé can do in the meantime as well so once I get the case number we can move as quickly as possible?

Also I didn’t see the embassy as an option on here. My fiancé is from Aruba but born in Colombia ( he gave up his citizenship and is now a Dutch citizen) and I thought the nearest embassy was in Curacao but I can’t find any information on this? (I was trying to look for embassy interview packet online).

Thank you! In case I didn’t update quickly here is our timeline

NOA1: 12/21/19

RFE: 04/19/19

NOA2: 05/14/19

Alright y'all!!!

Things are finally moving along it seems!

Or status changed today to "ready" on CEAC

1: Am I correct in thinking that means it's physically in Montreal now?

2: can we start DS160 now or do we have to wait to get P3 in hand?

4: would it be wise to start chasing down things like police certificate? (I researched it with all the info you gave @Greenbaum made some phone calls and got it all sorted and planned btw)

I had 2 date change's in the ready status.  The first was 15 May.  I emailed on 16 May to ensure that they had the right email addresses and I was informed that they had electronically received my file on 15 May.  Then it was changed to a date of 23 May.  The next day my fiancee received her k3 instruction letter in the mail.  So, I'm inferring that the first ready date is when the embassy electronically received my case and the 2nd date is when the embassy processed it.

I had my fiance get her police certificate as soon as the NVC initially received my case.  When I was in a Ready status I completed the DS-160.  Per the packet instructions I did step 1 then waited 5 business days to schedule the interview.

I advise you go to your subforum for Canada and begin asking your questions there. Its not helpful to ask someone from a different embassy what to do at yours. The Canadian embassy has a totally different system none like amy other embassy.  You only risk getting it wrong. Link is below.

You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actual one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards.

Packet 3: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf  And Packet 4 for reference also: https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/03/Packet4-MTL.pdf

For all things dealing with the US Consulate in Canada head on over to the sub-forum for Canada where they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa from their personal experience. Link:

Birth Certificate and Police Certificate information

Here is some additional information. As was stated in the Canadian sub-forum there is an "emergency order" application in Ontario. You need the birth cert that is CERTIFIED COPY OF BIRTH REGISTRATION that has the parents name. You don't want the "parental cert" that is a wallet sized one with parents names but no place of birth, doctors who attended birth etc. The parental one is for parents travelling with kids to prove custody in an easy to use/travel with format. Hope this clears up your question. CALL the registrar and tell them you need to do an emergency application otherwise you will be waiting 15+ weeks. Absolutely the long form is a required LIVE document needed at the interview or you'll get rejected.  I hope this info is helpful and best of luck.

In case you're doing the medical in Vancouver: Dr. Cheema requires you to schedule the interview first in order to book the medical.

Hello. Well on the I-129f form, I put the embassy in Curaçao. I wasn’t told any different but now I’m having doubts since I don’t see that as an option. Can I ask the NVC?

The embassy you'll be assigned is the one that represents the residential address you used on the I-129f. Your case number will beginn with  the 3 letter signifier for the embassy that you are assigned to. They will not entertain your desire to have an interview where you're not a resident.

DS-160 has no expiration. When you "hear" something challenge the individual who's making the claim to produce the link so you can follow up with your own take on what is said. Most times where I can i will provide a link.

its true that the DS 160 expires after 30 days, its clearly says that for the next 30 days you will be able to retreive the information from the data base, after that time you DS 160 will not be available, you will have to start a new application.

When you begin the completion of your DS-160 the website gives you ongoing opportunities to save and return to continue your work. If you don't return in 30 days then your DS-160 is deleted from the data base. Once you are confident that you have completed your DS-160 and you submit it, it is now available to be accessed by the CO when you present your confirmation page containing the barcode at your interview.  The CO will access your DS-160 and then tie it to your case file and now they can view your information from the DS-160.

I've never heard from anyone that they faced a "expired" DS-160 and were denied a visa solely for that reason or they were issued a 221g to create a new DS-160 because theirs was expired.

I hope this explains the validity of the DS-160.

This thread was created for those who are waiting from their NOA2 K-1 to their case assignment from NVC.

These are items that everyone asks for, so I thought I just post a PDF of them here for you to refer to when it's necessary.

Is there another number or way to reach the NVC? I have tried calling and there’s always a recording that agents are busy and no options to press and even if I do, it just hangs up on me.

There are two numbers to call with prompts. If you are in the position that you are describing then the phone lines are jammed with callers. Try a differt time. I recommend evening hours.

Hey I was reading over your PDF and I wasn't sure if updating my e-mail with the NVC is required of if they should already have it from my petition? Is that something I only need to do if it has changed or will i not get an e-mail alert otherwise?

No you update it anyway even if there were no changes. This might trigger email alerts from NVC and they may not even have your email address. Also request to be notified once your case arrives at NVC and your case number has been assigned, and also request that you be notified once you case leaves NVC. They don't always send out emails ( they sent all three to me) but it's better to request it in the off chance they do send you emails.
