I had a question on who can be a co-sponsor. I currently live with a family that has 2 kids. I called the embassy who informed me that my co-sponsor had to be someone in my household but I'm wondering can a co-sponsor be someone outside the household? like a family member or friend or coworker? Thanks!

Nothing yet, I called yesterday but didn’t speak to anyone on tier 2, I didn’t realize I could do that! I got a “yep we got it” answer. I politely expressed my concerns and and hung up. I don’t want to pull out my Ace just yet!😉

Yes you can ask at ANY time to be transferred  to a tier 2 officer. They can see further inside your file. If you've never spoken to one I'd do so at your earliest convenience.

Well, my plan was to go when Ren has her interview. But my patience are wearing thin so depending on how this political game plays out.  If things happen soon I'll wait for the interview and if not I will make a trip before the end of the year.

I understand fully, don't know how I was able not to visit, yes I take that back I do know why I have not visited her since our K1 submission in May 2018 until now. Those airport good byes are a mutha and they really hurt bad. The one in 2016 and another just before I submitted the K1,  in April 2018 (that airport goodbye liked to killed me) so I tended to avoid them. But I hear ya buddy, if my K1 had of dragged out much longer than it did I was preparing to bite the bullet airport good byes or not!

Let's hope you are approved soon so you won't have to go through what I did. Are there any red flags in your case i.e., multiple marriages as those tend to &*^% you up a bit!!!!!

Thanks for responding @Greenbaum ! I accounted for the fact Nigeria's US embassy is very difficult but was hoping my case would be at the NVC by now. I am sitting here confused as to how someone can ideally plan a wedding with all these variables in the air. Though, I have just decided to calm down because worrying does not move my petition any further in the process. Hope deferred but not denied....

Hey All,

I wanted to give an update on my petition situation. I called the USCIS Customer Service number again today and this time I asked to speak to a Supervisor. The rep just gave me a case number and transferred me to a line where I had to agree to be called back within 3 hours or so. But an immigration officer did eventually call me back within a few hours. I explained to the officer that I have not received an update to my case, especially after the letters I sent to correct my beneficiary's DOB dated May 16th (and another one dated June 6th because I thought CPC never got the first one) which the CSR person I spoke with today informed me still has the incorrect beneficiary DOB info!?!?! The officer told me that the last time my petition was touched was on May 13th and that touch point is a standard initial security check given to each petition (which was cleared). So yes, my petition has not been worked on AT ALL!!!! The officer said that she will send a service request to CPC for an update on my case and on the letters I sent correcting the DOB. Unfortunately and fortunately, the CPC will have 15-30 days to respond to this request.  I just feel I can no longer trust the process and have resolved to be more aggressive and more annoying with asking to speak to a supervisor, officer, and  or to a tier 2 rep demanding answers and updates. I am just hoping this nudges the process along. in some way...

I hope these to links help settle you down. I learned a lesson long ago and I'll pass it a long and that "He who has the gold gets to make the rules" and you don't have the gold so you're without merit. They'd only promised you three items. 1) That they'd adjudicate your case to the end using their rules 2) That they would give you a YES or NO answer and 3) They would do it on THEIR timetable and not yours.

Nigeria is a very tough embassy to use a co-sponsor.

The Embassy does not have to accept a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa (the embassy does have to accept a qualified co-sponsor, doesn't even have to be family, with an immigrant visa such as the IR/CR-1 spousal visa), but when they do accept a co-sponsor with the K-1 they want it to be a close relative - parents, siblings are best.  Age isn't relevant, as long as they are of legal age.   The co-sponsors income must meet the same 125%  poverty guidelines as the sponsor.

You may want to move over to the VJ thread and search for your answer amongst those who are from you country.
