The sad thing is that you commiting immigration fraud to cut a corner can hurt you in the long run.  If you ever get a job at Microsoft or Amazon, and they require you to travel to the US, or give you the opporutnity to relocate, you can be inelligable.

How often do we see this, people losing out long term for trying some kind of short term gain - lifetime bans for lying on visa applications, overstay bans etc, we’ve seen it all here...

Depends on the circumstances.

I was accepted, enrolled, and attending classes as a transfer student to a reputable universitry within 3 days. I hauled ### to do so and met with admissions counselors each of the 3 days, plus meeting with the director of admissions.

Obviously this is not the norm, but absolutely possible.

That is unusual but certainly doable, seen transfer students start to end in 2-3 weeks definitely!

and my kid got an early decision acceptance so application to offer was 6 weeks - and certainly no one would argue it’s not a reputable university..

the thing for me is not so much the speed necessarily, especially at lower tier (but still very decent) colleges with rolling acceptance even graduate admissions can be pretty quick. The point is ... you find out properly about the college you’re committing tens of thousands of dollars to...you don’t just look at some pictures on a website and say gee that looks cool I’ll go there...

Absolutely. I had toured the campus a number of times and knew the professors and some staff before I applied. I wasn't some new blood.

And I got to skip the week long orientation. :P

From the articles, it was badly set up sting operation, that duped a number of students who had no idea the university was not legit. Website presence was good, there were recruiters. There is a diplomatic raw between US and India over it now.

Seems like one can argue that OP was a unwitting victim with no misrepresentation intent.

I don’t think the recruiters were connected to the sting as many of them were prosecuted.

Hi,

I am in very critical situation as I am doing my second master's and I was about to apply for the h1b this year I got into this situation I am one of the student from farmington university where this university come to know as fake university formed by the US Govt. they have terminated my SEVIS and university has been shutdown, as soon as I hear about this I immediately came back to home country. Now, I need to know what are my chances of coming back to US ? if then can I fly back directly to US with the new i20 and by activating the SEVIS as I have valid visa which expires in (Nov 2019) should I attain the interview or without can I fly back ? and more important is there any ban of me ? I really appreciate if you can give me some advice or information that would be great!!

Correct, they weren't. I believe they were the intended target which makes students to be a collateral damage. Much like students in the admission cheating case were often unaware of their parents shenanigans.

Why are you so desperate to get back into a Masters program in the US? Several members have asked you this already and you have not answered.

You had to have known pretty early on it was a scam university when you never had to show up for classes. So please don't insult our intelligence by saying you never knew.

You can literally takes Masters programs in your own country.

Yup and I'm sure it's the same person with a new account looking for an answer to a question that we all told him no one can answer.

I could see foreign students unknowingly applying to this if they were not in the country but someone who is already in the country should have been easily be able to verify this was a real university or not, especially if you have completed a masters in U.S.

This is a total digression from the original topic but...

As with many grad programs, it depends on the circumstance. If one gets into a top MBA program, it certainly isn't worthless. Unless things have DRASTICALLY changed in the past few years, a Harvard/Stanford/Wharton (and probably UCLA too) MBA grad is going to get a job paying 6 figures if they put just a little effort into their job search. And as yourself noted, having deep specialty knowledge is useful. There are plenty of ways to have that knowledge other than an advanced degree.

(And no, I don't have a MBA. Just know a fair number who have one).

The phraseology you quoted is just about identical to that used by OP of this thread in post #4- pretty sure it’s the same OP

“I am one of the student from farmington university where this university come to know as fake university formed by the US Govt.

Because this Farmington university came to know fake univerity and it was formed by US Government.

OP's words from an earlier post "i came with another university visa after i completed my first masters i joined this university. at the time of join i didnt know about this."

Numerous fb/whatsapp networks that cater to such 'students' seeking ways to avoid returning to India.
