Interview- fingerprints vs name check

Hello, 

 

I am currently overseas and would have to return to my home state to have fingerprints done, whereas I can get the medical anywhere in the country. Returning to my home state is more complicated due to flight routing. 

 

Is it absolutely necessary to have fingerprints done or is a name check certificate fine and I won't be penalised at the interview? 

 

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry, I should have specified. It's in Sydney, Australia. 

 

US embassy document reads 

 

"Australian police certificate: You must apply for an Australian Federal Police Certificate (AFP). Australian police certificates are valid for 12 months from date of issuance. Your certificate can be based on a name check or fingerprint check. If it’s based on a name check, it must contain all aliases previously and presently used. Failure to provide a name check certificate with all aliases may result in the consular officer refusing your application for a police certificate based on a fingerprint check." 

 

I understand fingerprints is the better option but wonder if it really is fine to go in with name check only.

OK....You are trying to get a police certificate from Australia for a K-1 visa, correct?

Possible they will request fingerprints if the name check info is not sufficient enough.

Yes that's correct. Official docs say fingerprints are preferred, but name check will be accepted.

Seems the success mostly hinges on the completeness of all aliases/other names used info.  Honestly, if the embassy prefers fingerprints it's best to go with that if you can.

LucyS, Australia is a very low-risk country, so you should be OK with a name check.  As another poster said, if you have changed your name during your life, a fingerprint check is pretty important, but if you are still using the name on your birth certificate, a name check should suffice.

Most applicants go with bane check only and have no problems. We went for fingerprints just for personal preference. We went through Sydney  also

Two E3 visas denied, wanted to do J1 and adjust status, wanted to do transit visa, ESTA was blocked/B2 out of question  - and now you're going for K1 visa.

 

Good luck to OP, but damn, nice visa shopping lol.
