Hello-

I'm a first time user so hopefully this is the correct spot. My husband had his appointment in Juarez, Mexico on April 5th and was given a blue 221g paper with no additional documents requested. They also gave him back his passport. Is this a normal thing? I don't know much about this and haven't heard it happening very much from Mexico. The consular officer told him that it had to do with his name or something coming up in the system and that they need more time. Can someone please offer some advice as to what is going on or why? We do have a lawyer but she keeps telling me she can't do anything yet and that we just have to wait for now. Thank you!!

Sounds like administrative processing for background checks.  Your lawyer is correct, there is nothing she or anyone can do to speed up that process.  It simply takes as long as it takes.  Best of luck.

Do you know if this is a common thing for Mexico? Do they usually get cleared?

I don't have any direct knowledge for Mexico.  Have you searched within the Mexico forum?

Some countries hold the passport until the Administrative Processing is complete.  It could be they feel this AP could be lengthy so they returned the passport but I'm not sure how Mexico handles their Administrative Processing.  Pakistan holds the passport as long as the case is in AP (even if its two years) other countries return the passport and will request it back when they are complete.

You just have to "try" to be patient until they finish whatever it is they need to do to complete the verification for his qualifications for the Visa.   I know it is frustrating but like others have said there is nothing you can do at the moment.

Yeah, I’m trying to stay positive....it’s just so frustrating!! I do call the consulate a lot but they are no help. Did your husband end up getting approved and if so how long did it take?

I know that feeling but that just makes it get worse with the waiting. yea he ended up getting approved like 6 days later.

We are in a similar situation.  My husband had his interview on March 26 and he was given a white paper not requesting any documentation.  The consular officer did mention to him that he needed waivers and told us that we were doing the process backwards.  We should have the waivers when he went to the interview but my husband lives in mexico and the lawyer told us that he needs to get denied and they would tell us what waivers he needed to file.  But on the letter doesn't say anything.  I've been calling the number on the white paper and she said as of now they are not asking for any waivers.  Back ground on that he got deported in 2002 and hasn't came back to US since then.

I just got an email requesting that my husband send his his passport. Does this mean he was approved? The website still says administrative processing. When I called the embassy to ask all they told me is that at this time it only shows shows send passport and open status. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
