Hi there!  I met my husband while we were both doing an internship! At the time, we were working in Florida, and our families were pretty far away (Mexico and Pennsylvania).  We decided to get married in a very private ceremony (just us and two friends), with the intention of having a larger ceremony/reception within a few years when we could actually afford it.  As such, our families were not present.

I can 100% tell you that your situation will not be an issue at your interview! Our interview was fairly straightforward, and our officer simply asked how we met.  Besides, that, we just went over the biographical information on the applications.

Unfortunately, lack of family acceptance is a fairly common situation in gay relationships, and you won't be penalized for the opinions of others :) Best of luck to you!

Hi! I just had an interview (Aug 6) and the same-sex marriage was not an issue at all.  The officer was pretty friendly and kind.

One of the questions was.... "Did you have a big wedding party?  Or...?"  I don't think they would ask this kind of question to straight couples.

They did not even ask how I am accepted/perceived by my spouse's parents/family.

Oh wow your case is pretty much like mine. Same over stay B2. Been here for 12 years.

USCIS is not stupid. They'll look at the fact that you've been here for so long and question "Why didn't he get married" earlier if that was his goal? Right?

DOMA was passed in 2013, if adjusting status was my goal I would've married someone right away.

I actually just got married back in January. So, I am sure that you'll be fine. USCIS understand that when it comes to gay couples the whole thing is a little bit more discreet for some, either for religion views or families that are not supportive of gay people, ect.

And btw, I got married at the city hall, just 4 friends with us and the judge, that was it. No party after, nothing. We married January 27th, and February we moved into our new place. So we didn't have time for parties or anything.

My timeline for far:

-01/27/2020: Same sex couple, married to USC.
-06/29/2020: Package I-130, I-130A, I-131, I-485, I-693, I-765, I-864, I-864 joint sponsor and I-944 sent via certified mail USPS.
-06/30/2020: Delivered by USPS and signed by Chicago lockbox T Thomas.
-07/25/2020: Checks cashed.
-07/30/2020: Text messages received with case confirmation numbers.
07/31/2020: Received NOA's in the mail I-797C's.
08/05/2020: Received RFIE notification from USCIS for I-485, letter to follow via mail.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Very helpful for us... definitely put us at ease.
