what happens if you move country while waiting for your interview?

I had my biometrics in December 2018 and my ETA for the interview is Jan 2020. I live in Seattle and have been getting some job interest in Canada.

If I took a job, is there a way to get your interview location changed to one that's near to where you've moved? an embassy or some such?

Have you considered contacting the USCIS Seattle Field Office, north of SEATAC airport?

I have to wonder why you want USC, if you are going to move and live in Canada? Why not get Canadian citizenship?

Hmm, I can try but I'm fairly sure that trying to contact any USCIS office will result in an endless loop of phone menus.

You will have to maintain continuous residence in US to be eligible for American Citizenship. If you move to Canada and take a job there, you will lose continuous residence status and your application will be denied

I'm a little confused because it says that I have to have resided for five years prior to filing and up to the LPR date, but the requirements for my LPR was 3 years prior. I'm not sure how they want us to calculate it. Do they mean if you happen to have waited five years before filing you're good to go? and if I waited 3 years before filing, and it took 1 year to get LPR and that puts me at 4 years by the time my citizenship comes through... that I have to reside a further year (to bring it to 5 total) before I can leave?

Sorry, I guess I am a bit confused as to the intent of the question. Previously, I gave you a response by mentioning the USCIS Seattle Field Office. If you are trying to find somewhere in Canada to do your US citizenship interview completed, perhaps you should try contacting the US consulate in Vancouver BC, and inquire there with your question. Generally, there is only one embassy per foreign country and possibly several consulates in said foreign country. "Maybe the endless loop of phone menus" are less at the Vancouver, BC US consulate.

Good luck.

Hmmm, ok I think I have new info.

My requirement for the citizenship is 3 years in the US (because I married a citizen) plus 3 months of that need to have been in the state I'm filing from. Check.

Meanwhile I'm getting close to being offered dream jobs in both Vancouver and Montreal. My interview date is estimated to be Jan 2020. So my question is, if I take those jobs, what happens to my interview?

I'm guessing someone here would be able to answer that vs phoning one of the official offices, as they all generally try to discourage people from phoning in with questions. Maybe the online USCIS service has a section for questions.

There's no way to conduct the interview in Canada. There is no USCIS field office in Canada to conduct such an interview.

An embassy or consulate is under DOS, which does not adjudicate USCIS applications like an N-400.

Filing under the 3 year rule entails meeting all of the following criteria (among the other requirements, such as physical presence and continuous residence and GMC):

  • Being a US permanent resident (green card) for at least 3 years prior to filing the N-400.
  • Being married to the same USC for at least 3 years prior to filing the N-400.
  • Maintaining residence for at least the past 3 months in a jurisdiction covered by a given USCIS field office.
    • Note the use of USCIS field office jurisdiction, not state. One office can cover parts of multiple states, and one state may have multiple offices.

How's about one in the nearest US state? If I moved to Montreal for example, could I go to on in NY state?

It's a shame that the visa process takes so long. I've been unemployed for half a year and two of my dream jobs come up in Canada 6/7 months after I applied for citizenship and because they have a backlog and it takes 12-14 months to process, I have to be punished for it.
