Visajourney,

I was wondering if the original signature must be on the tax form I submit with my affidavit of support.  I have my tax forms for the past three years, but none of them have signatures.

A second question: I am about to submit my 2018 Tax return to the IRS and I will put this in my packet for my immigrating wife's interview at the Consulate.  (I'll definitely be able to have a copy of this signature) Is this a problem if her interview will be in a month?

most embassy as well as NVC are asking for Tax return transcripts these do not have signatures.

NVC requires them because the file to upload is smaller in most cases.

the embassy will require the tax return transcripts like I said most do and they will ask for 2018, if you do not have the transcripts for 2018 it is likely it will go to AP until you are able to turn them in.

I am considering sending a mixture of tax forms since this may be the fastest way to provide all three years worth of tax information:

2018: the actual return I will send to the IRS on Monday, (4/16/2018) with supporting documents

2017 & 2016 transcripts

We don't have our interview with the Guangzhou consulate yet, we may get the offer to sign up for an interview in 1-3 weeks.  If it's later, it's possible my tax form will have processed and I can get a third transcript.

I completed my 1040 electronically with adobe reader and the 1040 forms found online for the past 4 years.  I have saved all of these 1040s.  Just no signature and date.

Any thoughts?

Well, it seems I'm stuck just submitting my tax forms in pdf form without signatures.  I can't get a transcript because the shipping address I used is not the one the IRS documented.  Without that address, ordering transcripts are impossible.  Has anyone simply submitted a copy of everything in your tax return packet, but without the signature and date?

I submitted only 1 tax year - 2017 without signature, got accepted at NVC. When my wife was interviewed this week (Vietnam), she was not asked to submit anything (I prepared Tax Extension Form for my 2018 tax year just in case they would ask).

Thanks.  Yes, I think we'll just have to try our best and if they ask for me, we'll have to deal with it.  I've done my due diligence on this.

No signatures required on tax forms.  Send Tax Return Transcripts if possible.  If 2018 transcript is not available yet, send a complete copy of the return instead.  Get the transcript as soon as possible.

Hint:  If it is a piece of paper with a place for a signature, you can sign it anytime you want.  Just not needed in this context.  You're signing the affidavit under penalty of perjury.

Thanks pushbrk.  I've grown confident enough about this to just take in my tax forms over the past 3 years.  The transcript ordering system is not recognizing my Chinese address written in pinyin to authenticate I am who I say I am so I can't get my transcripts.  Not until I'm in the States at least.

I submitted 3 yrs worth of tax returns i received from my cpa. None had signatures because my cpa send mine in electronically.

The Embassies are pretty strict about transcripts lately, especially for CR-1.  I suggest getting the 2018 transcript from the IRS because many have had 221(g)s requesting that.

Only 1 year is required.  If you send more, send transcripts.  They are an instant download from IRS.

Because the address I put on my tax forms for the past three years does not digitally match the address IRS has on file for me, I cannot authenticate my identity in the IRS system.  As a result, I cannot download transcripts online or even request for transcripts by mail online.  The IRS website notes that the system is having difficulty with foreign addresses.  Right now my only option is to mail a transcript request by mail and hopefully an IRS official will see what is the discrepancy and send a transcript by mail.  If I don't get anything from the IRS then all we can do is explain the situation to the immigration officer and hope for the best.  One is allowed to attempt matching your address 3 times a day so I will try new addresses everyday and keep track of my attempts.  I could also print this document as evidence of the problem I am dealing with and perhaps that will help more.

Two questions as I've been working on this problem:

1. I noticed in the paper request for a transcript, there are several transcript options you may request: Return Transcript, Account Transcript, and Record of Account.  I just need my return transcript, correct?   (actually Tax Return request document attached so you can see what I am talking about)

2. If I send a transcript to my friend in the US.  Can he scan it and send it to me electronically or do I need the original transcript?

Has your interview been scheduled?  The later it is, the more likely the consulate will want your 2018 transcript.
