FYI: K1 is barely any faster these days, not several months faster.

Recent trends would indicate otherwise.  I am only speaking to entry not to green card.

Sole custody is not the same in the US as Canada. I had sole custody I still needed a court order. Do not think because they weren't married she doesn't need the permission. Get working on custody as it can take a long time to sort out if the father fights it.

Not his kid and father doesn't exist. Is why I said it isn't an issue. Sorry, I can't go deeper than this here.

Unless IVF the father is out there so yes he does exist and she needs to sort out custody. Heck even with IVF she needs to get that settled in court.

I know you don't want to go into details  and that is fine but and I'm telling you Canada is weird and will not let a child go without written or court orders.

One night stand and no idea who it was?

She still would need a court order to remove the child from Canada.

Often times ppl think not putting the father in the BC is enough and never go to court to get full/sole custody and our sole custody is more like the US joint custody. So she needs more than a blank BC.

Just from a practical standpoint, what would one say when they ask to see permission to immigrate from the other parent? "They don't exist?" "They aren't in my child's life?"

How would the officer know that was true? To quote a wise officer "I am lied to every day as part of my job".

A BC without a father listed may be sufficient for some countries, but my understanding is it's not for Canada. Make sure you get it settled sooner rather than later.

She has full custody. There is no father on the BC.

Good news for many then. OP should get started on the custody/permission to move abroad ASAP, interview might be earlier than expected.

Do those trends indicate that a K1 could take 3.5-4.25 months altogether to get approved with interview or is it significantly more?

@payxibka seems to have the latest details.

From my understanding, from filing to visa in hand, it's still much, much, longer than 3.5 months.

Petition approval not VIH, VIH is hard to judge because each consulate is unique.   Manila about an additional 2 month, CDJ is an additional 8+
