Hi guys,

Interview coming up on Tues 30th, got all documents together and getting them ready.

Been searching for an answer for this but drawing a blank so apologies if it's been asked before.

My fiance has sent through tax returns for last year and with all the various forms it comes in at 55 pages (summary from accountant - 5 pages, form 1040 - 7 pages, various worksheets - 10 pages... Etc.. Etc..) should I bring the entire print out or are there specific parts they will require?

Also, side question. She didn't work last year as she was on sabbatical working on a start up but has ample savings, stocks & shares, property and started work again in March on a healthy salary, should I be worried her tax return from last year doesn't show much of an income?

Thanks in advance for any input you can give!

Rob.

No tax return needed for a London K1 interview if you have an employer letter stating her current employment and salary. Maybe Pay stubs to back up the employer letter.

A tax return is only the IRS forms and schedules.  If it says worksheet or Thank you for using TurboTax, it's not the tax return. If it has comparison from last year or a summary, it's not the tax return.

Everybody will have different forms depending on source of income...job, interest, dividends, self-employment, farm income, etc. so I can't really say exactly but look for things called "Form" i.e. 1040, or "Schedule" i.e. Schedule 1. And there will be tiny lettering saying U.S. Treasury Department Internal Revenue Service under the Form number

Also look on the top left for writing that says

2018

Attachment Sequence No. [and a number]

That shows what order to put the papers in following the 1040 if you were mailing them in. Sequence number is a huge clue that it's part of the tax return and not superfluous accounting BS.

(my wife wrote that because she's the tax genius)

this would have been useful info for me ! I had my interview 2 days ago and took the whole tax return, but it was only 10 pages, as Wuozopo says they only care about the pages with 1040 on, in my case they just handed me the 5 redundant pages back without battering an eyelid and kept the rest, but if you gave them 55 pages worth that might have got them a little flustered !

Good luck for your interview !

As an example, TurboTax 2018  generated 63 pages of "stuff" for us. The actual IRS return to file (or submit to immigration) is 12 pages, which is 8 IRS forms or schedules. Keep that in mind for your AOS when you do the I-864.
