I filed an I-130 petition on March 28th and stated I wanted a DCF track. The USCIS rep agreed and I failed to ask for a written confirmation. Was I naive not to ask for it in writing?

That is the only track a uscis foreign field office does

YMMV

If you made the payment in person you will get a receipt from the cashier.  Otherwise you may not ever see it.

Once they review the petition they will email you that they are transferring the case to DOS  if of you submitted a G-1145 or hopefully mail it to you.   This is your NOA2.

If you haven't heard from them in a week or two I would call the USCIS office.

This could get dicey. I submitted the I-130 in person on March 28th in Bangkok and left the receipt with my wife, while I flew to the states, where I am now. Submitting a G-1145 at the time was not possible{ You can’t use Form G-1145 with all applications and petitions. Form G-1145 can only be used with applications filed at one of the USCIS lockbox facilities (Lewisville, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and Phoenix, Arizona).  I was under the impression that once I filed the I-130, all future forms, police and medical visits and interview are the sole responsibility of my wife{she has a support system in place should she need it, as well as phone and e-mail contact with me}. I can have her send me any information on the receipt if that would help.

I submitted our I-130 with the G1145 in person and the next business day I got an email stating that the USCIS had approved the petition and the next correspondence would be from the Consulate.  It may have been mailed but the mail service in our town in Mexico is crappy.    I think you can contact the USCIS in Bangkok with the receipt number to check the status.  I am not sure the best way to do that.

It took 6 weeks to get a case number and that was by calling every few days after week 4.  During the entire process the only thing I got in writing was a copy of the packet 3 from DOS.   They also emailed it to me.

There is a US number for the IV Section of the Consulate you can call.   Identify yourself as the petitioner and they  can help.

Sorry, I made the mistake of believing what I read...I'll definitely follow your advice as soon as my wife sends me a copy of the receipt.

Thanks!

I'm reminded about the famous phrase "I'm withe government and I want to help". After a series of dead-end calls, I finally got the u.s.phone number of USCIS and was asked for the receipt number. The only number on the receipt is the transaction number, which I typed in and was told not enough numbers.

What now?

Ahhh is there a barcode at the bottom of the receipt?  Ours had 5 digits above it.    I know you can't check it online.   I tried to in the weekend we filed.

Maybe only someone at USCIS Bangkok can do it.?

If not start calling to NIV section in a few weeks.  They can find it by name if it is entered.   Ours took 6 weeks to go from one side of the consulate to the other.
