I got the bad news that my USC Fiancee (who filed his taxes for the first time in his life) has filed them incorrectly. Which leaves him saying that he meets about $4000 of the $16,910 income requirement for the i-134 (K1 visa). What does he have to do now?

If he can include his assets too who does he need to value them?

Good news is I got our case number from the NVC last night so I should be booking my Medical/Interview very soon. Which means that if we don't want any delays we have to find a solution quickly. But... my fiancee is very slow and I am starting to freak out.

P.S. It also can take 16 weeks for a tax return to be amended and he doesn't want to wait that long.

Who helped him file his taxes? If his income is that minimal, he should reach out to the IRS for free help:

He self-filed online, thank you for the link - I will send that to him today. He seems to think that getting a co-sponsor will be our best option. But still he hasn't found one :( I'm so eager to go ahead and book my interview but it seems that this trouble will be what holds us up. :(

Please take care and make sure he'll be able to take care of you/that your AOS will not be delayed. Read to many stories where the new spouse is stuck in a situation where they overstayed, can't work without EAD, can't AOS because of the lack of funds.  Good luck in finding a sponsor, or a second job.

Once we get married on the K1 visa how long do we have to apply for AOS

As long as you need to, in theory. However, once your i94 is expired, you will be without status.  How long can you realistically not work, travel, etc.?

you should aim to file it within the 90 days after entering on your K1 visa. It can cause issues if you left the country before getting AP at least - but you dont HAVE to, but remember no starting of the AOS = you cant work and even when you start the process youre looking at months before being legally allowed to work. Also keep in mind AOS is another $1245 filing fee too.

I think getting co-sponsor is your only option unless either of you have a lot of savings, the co-sponsor would be legally obliged to support you, so they have to be good with that

Is your fiance currently in work or education ?

Explain this better. How you file taxes shouldn't change what your income is.

Are you saying his income is $4000?

Did he get a W2 wage statement from his employer saying how much he earned in 2018?

He needs to refile with the correct figures.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
