I'm graduating in May and starting a new job July 1st, which meets the income requirements for the I-134. Without this job, I do not meet the requirements as I have been a student. If I submit the I-134 after July 1st, when I have officially started working, will it be sufficient? Or do I need 3 years of tax returns (I have heard I need this)?

You’ll need a co-sponsor.

This one will likely be the case and they'll want you to submit the 3 years worth of tax return as well. Check out the I-134 additional filing here for more info. Seek after getting NOA2.

4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.
5. You will need several items (for the above form). Gather duplicate evidence of income and resources as appropriate:

(A) Statement from an officer of the bank/financial institution with your deposits, identifying the following: 1. date account opened; 2. total amount deposited for the past year; 3. present balance
(B) Statement(s) from your employer on business stationary showing: 1. Date and nature of employment; 2. salary paid; 3. whether position is temporary or permanent (also include copies of your last two pay stubs and your previous W-2 for the associated employer if available)
(C) If Self Employed: 1. Copy of last income tax return filed (or IRS transcripts); or 2. report of commercial rating concern
(D) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. See this FAQ for more tips and useful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to taxes, but I'm pretty sure I don't have any tax returns (I've never worked a job long enough/received enough income to have to file taxes and my mother has always claimed me as a dependent, as far as I know). Will this be a problem?

I received the NOA1 from the California Service Center, is that what you mean? They received it on February 11, 2019.

Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

Not knowing your embassy where the beneficiary will interview at puts us at a disadvantage in answering your questions. Each embassy is different in how they handle the financials. Most are looking for the same items but length and quantity seem to differ from each. I could go on and on with the differences but that is a waste of breath for me. It's best that once you return and tell us your embassy we will wait to opine.

Ah I'm so sorry! My fiance will be interviewing at the Tokyo embassy in Japan! I also just got my NOA2 much sooner than expected!! I guess now I will definitely need a co-sponsor. Are W-2's/tax returns necessary if I have never been employed full time and am currently not employed (again, because I am a student)? I have also never filed taxes so I don't think I have a tax return.

I gave you the instructions to change your profile, I hope you found them easy to follow and complete soon.

Are you the petitioner or the beneficiary?

Hello! I have a question regarding the I134 and my embassy which is Bogota Colombia! I have this issue! I started working last in June! If i would of have worked the entire year i would have had made the income required by the embassy! But i was in Colombia las year during basically 6 moths! I have been traveling back and forth to see my fiance and have stayed with him for months at a time! Thats why my income taxes are not that hight! But this year i have worked every month up to date! I have all my paystubs and i have direct deposit! My taxes for 2108 were 15k but if i would have worked all year round i would have made much  much mich more! From june 2018 to December 2018 i made over 3 additional trips to Colombia! I got engaged in Sept 2018 and have been in a relationship for more than 3 years!!! Since he will be coming this year i decided not to travel as much as before!!!! What should i do?

Submit your tax transcripts for the past 3 years. Get a letter from your employer stating your salary, position, date you started. Show W2's and pay stubs for past year. Have a cosponsor prepare their paperwork and have it at the interview in the event you run into difficulties.

If you haven't filed taxes and since thats the primary means to which USCIS can determine if you are able to financially support your fiance then I suggest you gather what documents you can that are listed in the post above and get yourself a good cosponsor.
