I couldn't find a specific thread with this topic, so perhaps this could be the venue for all things SLEC Medical Exam-related in 2019. If I missed a link or forum that makes this redundant, maybe y'all can transfer my post. 😊
Anyway, I know I'm still some ways off from doing this process but I figured I'd gather information early on to be better prepared. I have a couple of questions about the medical exam:

1. SLEC website says we can bring x-rays from the past 3 months. Will doing this render the x-ray procedure unnecessary on Day 1 of the medical exam?

2. The whole "sputum scare" that some people are paranoid about. As in, I'm getting the impression that if they find the tiniest blurry thing on the x-ray it could delay or complicate the process. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences regarding this? How do you make sure you don't get such problems (besides not having some sort of respiratory illness on that day)? Because some have "prepared" in advance for their medical, as in proper diet and exercise, etc. I don't know how important all that really is. I know, I know. It's really a personal choice. 😂 But I'm curious what everyone thinks anyways.

3. This is more personal: I got into a car accident in 2008 and as a result have had surgical procedures done for broken bones and scars. I have a particularly prominent scar on my forehead. When I was applying for my passport they asked for medical records for it, but I had none, and they let it go anyway. So I figured it could be relevant enough. SLEC site says: "Medical certificate regarding a previously-treated or currently managed clinically significant illness...surgical procedure done..." Except mine really wasn't an illness. I wonder, should I present medical records of this event on the exam? Maybe call St. Luke's to ask?

4. That thing about people waiting in line at 4 am on Day 1... I found a 2018 post wherein some of you guys said it isn't really necessary. How about more recently, I wonder?

I hope y'all would excuse me for having a ton of questions all the time. I tend to overthink. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

  1. SLEC will still perform an x-ray as deemed necessary.
  2. If they see a spot on the x-ray that is potentially consistent with TB, they will perform sputum testing. This does not mean "any" spot. Many perfectly healthy people can have spots appear that are not consistent with a potential TB finding. SLEC will follow CDC guidelines.
    1. No harm in eating a good diet or exercising, but there's no data suggesting it will impact the results. No harm in continuing a proper diet and exercise afterwards, too... ;)
  3. If you have or can obtain the records, that's good. Otherwise I wouldn't be too worried. Beyond that, I'll defer to others.
  4. Same thing year after year. 😆 Being there sooner will likely result in being done sooner, but not necessarily being there for less time.

1:  NO ... SLEC will still require you to complete the X-ray.

2:  You can do NOTHING to "prepare" for the x-ray .. what they are looking for is scarring or such on your lungs that would cause then to verify with the SPUTUM process.

3.   Don't stress in the scars, if they don't look like "self abuse" it will be a non-issue.   They will ask what happened, but will not require previous medical records.   Bring them if you have them, otherwise  .. relax.

4.    Absolutely no reason to show up at SLEC to get in line at 4AM.   Wait until have the crowds have cleared (SLEC fully opens at 7:30) , show up at 9AM or even a little later, you will still, easily, be done with day one of the medical.

Went to medical on April 15th around 10 AM, she was out on the first day at 4:30 PM. Second day we showed up at 2 PM and she was done around 6:30 PM. She cleared medical, but has to wait till the 15th of May for measles vaccine since they were out. I told her to call around the 9th to see if they have it in. Tried to get her daughter in the same day, but they didn't have IGRA for her daughter, so her daughter has an appointment on the 29th of this month. Interview is scheduled for May 17th.

Had our NOA2 last April 10.. Fiancé is adamant not to call NVC for our MNL case number, and wants to wait it out (30 days) before making follow ups. I respect his decision because he works for the government too. My concern is that our NOA2 will expire on August 8, 2019. I have been treated with PTB in the early 2000's and has been cleared every year ( annual physical exams at work ) so understandably I would undergo that sputum culture..

My question is this:  since until now we don't have the MNL case number yet, do you think we will have enough time to complete the medical ( with the sputum culture for sure ) and embassy interview before the August 8 expires?  I was able to verify with CFO if I can attend their seminar without doing the medical first, and I was able to book a slot for May 31. This is making me anxious but I didn't want to put too much pressure on my fiancé because he has a lot on his plate too.. Appreciate your inputs beautiful people of VJ 😍☺️

Don't worry about the noa2 expiration,  the embassy extends it automatically for 4 months and they can do this 3 times

YMMV

Emailing to get the MNL# is SOP (government likes it, saves the price of a stamp ;) .. gives you the document needed to complete the medical. )       Tell your fiance.... Git Er Done!!

YourI-129F petition won't expire for a year .. embassy will automatically extend it up to 1 year.   No worries there.

Yes you can attend CFO without completing the medical, CFO is a Philippine requirement not the embassy.    Good to get CFO done early as the appts can be a month out.

The email isn't rushing the government.  NVC will automatically send an email instead of the letter, saves about 5-7 days and the cost of postage.    This gets things done quicker not slower.

Trust me .. I am not with the government .. ;)   (tell this one to your fiance too.    )

... I am not new to how this visa process works.   You follow the guide I gave you a link to and you will be done with the visa process in short order.
