translations for birth certificates

I don't see this topic anywhere but I'm wondering what others have done recently and successfully for the translation of the birth certificate when filing I-485 Adjustment of Status. A helpful friend told me that she did it herself a couple of years ago but most of what I read says it needs to be signed by someone certified. What is currently acceptable?  I have a colleague who will do it for free for me but she's certified in Belarus and not here in the U.S. where she's living currently. I can also translate it myself (I have a degree in Foreign languages and Linguistics) but I'm not a certified translator and perhaps that would be considered a conflict of interest. Any very recent successful experiences?

Best bet is to use one of the online services. Just google it up, and most of the big ones are USCIS approved. It's not very expensive, and is pretty easy. Sometimes you can find a local translator, but online is easy, and you don't have to leave your house, unless you mail the actual document too them to translate, but most can do it from a scanned image. Here is one below...

Where have you read this?    Your friend or anyone who is fluent in both languages can translate it....just include this statement :

My wife translated all of our documents.  She is fluent in Spanish and English.  She just attached a sheet similar to this one and it worked no problem.

I translated all my husband's documents...honestly we also paid for "certified" translations in Russia and they made errors, so....who is to say "certified" means good? However, I did not do AOS and this was for the Embassy so I can't say for sure if self-translating your own document will work. Seems like others have don it though.

No such thing as USCIS approved.   The uscis had no formal approval process and all the translation services do is a self-proclamation

YMMV

True, I think they just say that to seem important and get you to use their service. It like McDonald's saying come in and try our healthy options... As if there is anything healthy at McDonald's.. LOL

Yes, I think you're correct. I thought I saw that it had to have a certain type of certification on the USCIS site but after I went back and looked again in the instructions and evidence needed sections I couldn't find it at all. It must have been for profit sites where I read it! Thank you all for helping me get it done!
