New case number when transferred to the embassy??

For some reason we got a EAC case number when we applied, and now we have a new one (mtL), I am assuming its the Montreal Embassy one, but how do we track it, it doesn't show up in the system. Any ideas?? Thanks Lee

Hi Lee,

I also received an EAC# for my application. The number you received (the MTL one) sounds like the case number from the NVC; it won't work on the USCIS site. Unfortunately that second case number isn't trackable online - you'll have to call the NVC on the phone and harass one of the operators, or email the consulate if it's already been delivered there.

NVC does assign another case number. Ussualy the first 3 letters idicate which consulate is getting the case. You can only track it by calling NVC, but for the most part K-1s are in and out of the NVC in a couple days.

Yup, we went from WAC (filed in CSC) to a LDN #. Only the 1st # is trackable online.

You use the second number when you call the State Department - if you call them - to check on the status of your case.

You can use either number (the one from USCIS or the State one) if you are calling NVC to see if the package has left for the foreign embassy.

After that, you don't call NVC anymore. You call the State Department and you will use the embassy specific new case number if you want to check on anything else.
