Wedding Ceremony Location

Hi All,

I can't seem to find the phone number to the visa office so i can ask them directly.  But anyway, so let's say my fiance visa is granted then we will go to the court to  apply marriage certificate.  After done with marriage certificate, we would like to have wedding ceremony.  Does the wedding ceremony location have to be in my Washington state?  Can I have wedding ceremony in my fiance country because she has a lot of relatives over there and too expensive for them to buy flight tickets to  attend the weeding if we celebrate in Washington?

US is required. After you apply for AOS and get AP, then you could go back and have a ceremony in the home country, but the marriage needs to happen in the US. Can try video'ing the wedding ceremony to their family at home, like skype it.

The k1 is to enter the US and get married in the US.

If you wanted to get married outside the US you should have done that, and then filed for a CR1.

K1 visas are for marrying within the United States. It must be within either your home state or within any state in the USA. It cannot be in the foreign fiancé's country, as this is not the purpose of the K1 visa.

thank you everyone for replying.

Sorry I used the wrong word or understood it incorrectly.

When I said wedding ceremony, i meant the wedding reception (party to celebrate this special occasion).

I will apply K-1 for my girlfriend.  After the K-1 visa is granted, she will fly to my home state and we will go to court to register marriage.

After marriage certificate is completed, we will celebrate with families, relatives and friends.  So for this celebration, we can have it anywhere right?

Yes, once you filed for AOS/EAD/AP and she has her advance parole, which takes a few months.

That's great.  thanks.

Can you share what are these acronyms AOS, EAD, and AP?

Common uses:

AOS= Adjustment of Status

AOS= Affidavit of Support

EAD= Employment Authorization Document

AP= Administrative Processing

But in the instance of your first post, AP is Advanced Parole, which allows the beneficiary to leave the US and re-enter without abandoning their AOS. OP may not know what AP meant in the context of AOS/EAD/AP.

thank you.

OP, when you see AOS/EAD/AP together, AP is Advanced Parole. Administrative processing is when they hold a case to further review it, usually after the interview.
