Moving and changing Jobs

Hey guys. My husband and I live in a small town where the economy isn’t that good and we are talking now about moving to a bigger city to get better jobs. He makes already more than the minimum required to support me. We already filled AOS and we are now just waiting. How can it effect our process? The moving to another state (probably) and changing jobs? Would I have to send another affidavit of support with the new job information and new salary? Is it better if we wait here till I get the GC or that doesn’t matter? Appreciate any help! Thanks!!

  • moving to a bigger city in another state will probably change your field office, which may delay you getting an interview (because you'd be at the back of your new field office's queue, probably), but that's the only effect it would have on your case
  • you probably should have a new I-864 ready so you'll have it if they ask for it
  • you'll need to inform USCIS within ten days of moving

You'll have to decide for yourselves whether it's better to move now or later.

If it's reasonable to expect a GC interview soon where you are and expected GC processing times where you want to move are long, I might hold off on moving... but not too long, if you've got significantly better jobs lined up in your new city.
