Everything is in the guides here on VJ and on the USCIS website.

Just curious.....if money is tight and you're needing to borrow for the filing fee, why did you not borrow the money for the fee when you first overstayed and married?  You could have been working for over a year now.

We didn't want to borrow money as my husband was paying off his loan , we had no intention of not filing ever , we were just saving .

Right, I get that.  It's just that the math would show that the net cost of doing it this way is far greater.

You are definitely ok to file for an adjustment and you should do that right away as you are in an illegal status at the moment and you are definitely deportable at the moment.

how do i go about paying with cc ? I thought they only take checks? Please advise

Go to the USCIS website, where you download the forms and the instructions for submitting them.  The payment info is there.

Under Filing fee section:

"$535. You may pay the fee with a money order, personal check, or cashier’s check.  When filing at a USCIS Lockbox facility, you may also pay by credit card using Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions. If you pay by check, you must make your check payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Please note that service centers are not able to process credit card payments."
