how do you people know?

I was just wondering how all of you knew things like when they recieved it, and such? did you get the confirmation thing at the post office? and also i sent my application out on the 14th of may and when should i be expecting anything, and what would it be?

Provided your address is correct you should get a Notice of Action in the mail within a month of sending it. They are a bit slow at the moment, so you may get your notice a bit later than most people have.

If you used a personal check, wait for the check to be cashed and get the cancelled check, it will have your case number on the back.

You can also sign up for email updates at the USCIS site. All you need is your case number, which can be obtained from the back of your check or from your NOA1.

Many people choose to send their petitions through registered/certified mail or by over night express. This gives people a tracking number to see when it was accepted at the service center. If you did not do that, waiting for the check to cash (and getting the WAC# from the back) and/or receiving the NOA1 are the next best options.
