Embassy/Consulate Subforums?

Dan&Tiffany,

I didn't misread you at all. I simply stated my thought on the issue, which is the same as what you have just said.

Yodrak

and - side note - I think on your point 4, Yodrak, you misunderstand D&T's concern. (or I do.) it seems that the point isn't that the 1 lone filer from country x is less important, it's that because there are fewer of them, they might get pushed down the board. so maybe a separation would keep them from being forgotten. i think that was the concern. it isn't a matter of wanting them out of the way, it's a matter of making sure they don't get run over.

Yes, Daisy! Thanks for translating - got to it before me! I think you definitely misread me there, Yodrak. No visa or group of visas is any more important that another.

 gotcha - hard to read tell tone intended in text sometimes.

I think I messed up in my words - I think I thought (I sound like the little engine that could now) that there were London subforums, not threads, in the general consulate/embassy section before. Even though I might have written "thread." Oh well, long day. The mammoth threads are fun for things like the running "January Filers" ticker in K1 subforum, but I think they'd be less useful for info-swapping/answering sorts of situations.

As for the flags - yes, they can be useful *within* the threads - but my question was whether they could be displayed on the main forum page so you would see a list of thread titles, who posted them, and the flag of that person's country-of-interest. Could be a deal between splitting up new subforums and junking the regional forums.

As for the London filing - it must have just been an organic change over time in the UK regional forum that led to a place once being mainly footie/biccy/fun threads housing informational posts as well. All it takes is one thread to spawn the rest, right? So when I started reading here, it seemed to me that the UK forum was where to put (what I meant to be) really specific London questions. So it seems normal to me. But it seems like a sea change for someone who watched it evolve.

I'm not sure one is better or worse than the other.

But, as with the flags suggestion, as a user and someone who wants to keep information in a place that will do the most good, I'd be more a happier camper with keeping all "hard threads" (non-footie/whatever) in the general forum if there were just a smidge more information for people to quickly screen based on how they'd like to use the system, and to help people get good information.

Respectfully. I really just can't agree with this - as someone who used the long thread and followed it from the instant I filed for my K-1 (and did not use the regional forums at all), it was a definitive source of information. Quite frankly, I thought the "embassy stage" was the easiest part of the journey because of it as I knew exactly what to expect as everyone who used it was in the same stage of the process. You need everyone in one place sharing their experiences, not spread out over seperate sub-fora. The logical place to go is in a forum called Foreign Embassy and Consulates, especially as most people come for information (at least initially) not to chat. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not against having a London Thread going. I find the super long threads cumbersome in other areas, but since there hasn't been a London Embassy one in the area about which we're talking, I don't know how I would view it if I were using it myself. I was just saying I misread you before - which was my mistake.
